Since When Is Stealing from the Taxpayer Not "Unethical"?

If all of the profit from the Wicomico dispensary system is the taxpayers' money, and ...

If the profit from the dispensary is defined as: Sales - Legitimate Operating Costs, and ...

If the dispensary is a government-owned monopoly, ...

How can Wicomico County Executive Rick Pollitt refuse to call the dispensary board "unethical", when:
  • The WCLCB lines its members' pockets,
  • The WCLCB spends tens of thousands of dollars on "advertising", even though it has no competition,
  • The WCLCB hands out money to social clubs,
  • The WCLCB hands out money to the pet charities of its board members

Rick is a good guy! The situation is that he hasn't cleaned the house nor did he surround himself with those advisors who do right for the people rather than what they consider politically correct. This is a opportunity for Rick to let the community know he will do the right thing. Contact the Governor and ask him to appoint a new board and call the legislators and ask them to put in a law to rid Wicomico from this corrupt system. Then announce to the taxpayers what he has done. He can't ride the fence until 2010 or he will be unemployed.

Looks to me that the board would be able to submit another 20/40 thousand dollars to our general fund.I still don't understand why legal action is not taken for misappropriations of public funds.I guess we will have to await Pollitts answer. This has nothing to do who appointed them.this is tax payers money.

Can you just imagine the stuff these Good Ole Boys funneled out of that system since 1940? Even with scrutiny upon them they dare to shove their personal charity’s and perks down the taxpayers throat.

The employee that received that watch to my knowledge had only been employed there 10 years or so. I know of at least three former employees that were forced into early retirement, they got screwed after a lifetime of service, while this short term employee gets the expensive watch.

G. A. I would love to know how much was spent on the superintendent prior to Collis, believe she retired in 2002-2003, I bet you that was a whopper.

What can the common resident and taxpayer of Wicomico County do about this? I'm fed up and need some direction to get rid of this wasteful misuse of our money!

This county apparently will always accede to poor policy and behavior so long as it can derive revenue from those activities. The almighty buck rules here...ethics? propriety? They are for sale by our government along with liquor beer wine and lotto tickets.

Sommerset County blogger here, also concerned as we have the same "system", and if investigated, perhaps will come up with similar issues and transgressions. Let's do the numbers, in 2007 the LCB had total sales of $7,100,000, and a profit of around $396,000. These figures provide a "return on sales of less than 5.6%!! Believe me, the stores are not being run as a business, as no buisness owners could make it on this small return. The question is, where is all the money going?? A profit of $396K on $7.1 million?? Either the profits are going elseware or the stores are being totally mismanaged. Take the stores private, charge the same prices, and we'll see far higher profits from these stores as private businesses...

in private bussiness a profit margin like that would cause for every executive head to be lobbed off
