Democrat/Republican

"Joe,

I have been a registered Democrat for all of my voting life. After watching these immature people (Democrats) including the idiots of the liberal press sling nonsense at the Governor of Alaska and after watching Nancy P. and her fellow cohorts go on vacation when I’m unemployed, no health insurance and land taxed through the roof and can barely afford gasoline and wonder how the people of this country will heat their homes this winter and I hear good old Biden wonder what Palin plans to do about health care (when they may freeze to death this winter) I have definitely decided to vote straight Republican. I do not care if the Republicans run a monkey on the ticket it is better than the lame brained idiots that are calling them selves Democrats. I realize a few good Democrats may exist but in my opinion all must be hurt to let them know how I feel. Where are the issues that are important to the public, where are the things that are affecting this country and the good people of this country. Don’t bother to ask a Democrat as they are too busy slinging nonsense of immaterial value and telling lies and covering up for $100,000 stolen in greed.

I cannot wait to vote. It is the one way I can personally express how I feel and right now I’m very disappointed in Congress including our local representatives. They act like a bunch of children after wasting our tax dollars after we voted them to the position. They forget about the hard working people who voted them in and these democrats work only for small no name irresponsible causes and let’s not forget the pork projects. Nothing is free; someone has to pay while they ride the big wave.

I don’t know how others feel but I’m tired of it. It may not change anything but at least I will have had my say.

Thank you for at least reading. That is more than a Democrat can do."

That sounds like a good plan. I really hope that it works out for you. The republicans will fight hard for you to stay poor.

You could alway hope the Dem's get in office to tax the rich and give to the poor for a true Socialist government by taxation. The Dem's always want to punish the true Americans that work for a living and give it to the illegals and lazy people that never intend to work.

My husband and I were both laid off from our jobs.

Its been a really scary time, but taking the time to be afraid and stressed does nothing but cloud your judgment.

So in the meantime, we've struggled. We've both filed, and received, unemployment. We've received free health care from the state in which we literally don't spend a penny to see the same doctors we used to pay hundreds (thousands) in premiums and copays for. We get free food from the WIC program. We have qualified for more things, but we have too much pride to take advantage.

Ever been in that position?

The thing is, it takes very little to get these programs. You don't even have to speak English.

We hate that we are using these programs, and as soon as we are back on our feet again, we'll pay our way through life 100%. I'm becoming angry and bitter that these programs exist...and that they HAVE to exist for times like these. Perhaps if our taxes weren't so high to pay for things like these, we'd have savings and wouldn't be stuck like this.

The workers in these programs are courteous and go out of their way to make sure you know of all the programs available to you. They go out of their way to make the process easier. That should be a good thing for any other industry except for those that exist solely for the purpose of prolonging making an honest living.

I know I contradict myself when I say I use these programs but they royally piss me off. The thing is, they wouldn't piss me off as much if they were hard to get, or if I even had to speak English to get them. I now know why people "live off the system" and I'm pissed that so many of my tax dollars went and go to these programs in the first place because I know full well someone could stop working forever and have the same exact luxuries for free that we've paid for as a struggling middle class family.

Before this point, I was a democrat. I've become such a far right fiscal conservative since. Our (paid for) health insurance begins in a few weeks and now that we're starting to get back to a point where we are out of the hole, I'm no longer ashamed because I'm using government subsidies. However, I'm pissed off at the same time because I know that my job is paying for someone else to sit on their asses and wait for the check in the mail.

The democrats have made it too easy. They had some really good ideas, but they have gone so far wrong its ridiculous.

The "liberal" press is owned by major corps that benefit from Republicans.

They slung "nonsense" at Palin? Her debt-riddled record as a mayor is "nonsense"? She called Hillary Clinton a whiner for what was slung mercilessly at Clinton, but now Palin whines that the media is sexist.

The McCain wouldn't let her do interviews until the press could show "respect and deference." So how is she going to stand up to world leaders if she can't handle anything but softball questions on how great it is to be a hockey mom?

I realize talking to this audience is futile, but the double standard you promote is unbelievable.

As for the economy, McCain has no clue. My family has suffered greatly under Bush. I look forward to the economy turning around.

Unless you people want to continue to run up the country's credit card held by China. You'll blast Barrie Tilghman for it (I agree!), but you won't call it what it is when Republicans do it. For the bulk of Bush's term, it's been the Republicans that have been the tax and spend party. And I'm glad so many of my Republican friends recognized what a disaster Dubya was and did NOT vote for him a second time.

Learn a history lesson or two.

Hey dummy, our local reps are Republicans, so if you don't like them, why would you vote the straight Republican ticket? The Republican Party has engaged in more pork barrel spending than the Democrats, and John McCain wants to cut taxes only for those people making $250,000 a year. Obama wants to cut taxes for the middle class (notice McCain's ads carefully say Obama wants to raise taxes--they don't mention that it is only for the wealthiest 5%). Think and do a little research before you vote.

8:06,

What hypocrisy! You should be thanking the Democratice Party for ensuring that htese programs exist because they literally saved your family. That is real family values right there. They may have even saved your life by allowing you to go to the doctor. But instead you criticize it because people who don't speak English might also get to save their families and also get basic medical care? How selfish and how awful to think that way. I'm glad my tax dollars helped your family, and I'm glad my tax dollars will help the next family who needs it. And that is why I am voting Democratic.

it's funny(not really) that you whine about a few small problems with the democratic party, but where was your view on the republican party when they let american citizens die in New Orleans during Katrina?Poor you.

I don't suppose your Democratic Senators and Congressman hold any accountability do they? It's all Bush. Another pathetic Dem excuse. You losers are full of 'em.

"If you don't have any fresh ideas, then you use stale tactics to scare the voters. If you don't have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run from. You make a big election about small things. And you know what - it's worked before. Because it feeds into the cynicism we all have about government."

As I see it, it starts on a local government level.... .the laziness...the forgetting who put you there...the forgetting who you are supposed to be voting and arguing for, the meetings you are supposed to attend, the memos you are supposed to answer, etc.

Can we say "good old boy network". I am convinced they are in every town, every county, every state and yes, in Washington.

It's the same on a local level as it is on the national level...there is a select group of individuals, both democrat and republican, who run the show...the only difference is there's more money to dole out, bigger parties to be invited to and other perks that we cannot even imagine, or want to.
Of course it's all on a larger scale the higher up the food chain you go.

Those people who I have made reference to need to be called out.
When you know it's happening, publicize it so they are not re-elected again. Make sure your facts are accurate though or you are only contributing to the problem.

In some municipalities here on the Shore, there are people who have been on their local town councils and county councils for YEARS...and SOME of these are no longer there for the right reasons, if they ever were.

It is up to the citizens to make sure their elected representatives are doing their job.

And, dear author, I can not wait to cancel out your vote with mine.
