I Thik We Just Found Our Lincoln
"At approx 10:30 Monday evening, two black males in a silver Lincoln navigator were driving the wrong way on route 13, a police officer spotted them, he turned and pursued them at which time back up was called and it turned into a high speed chase down Main street of Fruitland towards Riverside Drive. The Lincoln was traveling at a high rate of speed and ran the stop sign at Riverside Drive at that point he took out the stop sign on Cherry Hill lane with his mirror and running board, the chase ended with the Lincoln coming to a dead end street, striking the biggest tree in the neighborhood, no brakes were applied, police estimated speed at approx 80 miles an hour. The driver was cut from the Lincoln and transported him to the hospital, with life threatening injuries, the passenger refused treatment and was then handcuffed and placed in a police vehicle, he later complained of chest pain and an ambulance was called to transport him the the hospital. The Fruitland Police, State Police, Fruitland Fire department, Salisbury Paramedics, were at the scene within minutes and did an amazing job!!!!"

So let's see how this affects us....
Insurance pays for the SUV and we ALL have our "uninsured motorist" portion increased on our insurance.
The state probably pays for the wrecker, ambulance, etc. and our taxes go up.
They are taken to the hospital and treated for free. We all pay higher bills to cover the cost these types of cases.
The state spends thousands to prosecute and our taxes go up.
The state incarcerates these guys at a cost of about $40,000 a year and our taxes go up again.
Then they get out and commit more of the same and the circle continues.
We all better start pushing hard for extreme time for crime or before you know it, we'll all be in a 50% tax bracket and won't be able to afford our insurance. Manditory sentences without early release. That's what will deter crime. Not 40 years with 25 suspended, serve 7 and out on good behavior. And as far as over crowded prisons, put six or eight in a cell! Sounds like another good deterrent to me!
At least something was done. I heard a story about a drunk driving incident recently. A pickup was on Rt. 13 hit a pole, drove in the wrong lane, sped through parking lots and over the railroad tracks, lost a wheel, and continued sparks flying. Someone called 911 and the police came, but there were no consequences for the person who was driving.
Maybe the NAV guy can buy the one that one oif your other readers has for sale.

Richard, you are so naive. The list of charges will include theft over $500, eluding a police officer, speeding, etc. Probably nol pros some, stet some and probation before judgment for the others.
We need to send them to Arizona. The warden out there knows how to run a prison.
How is your comment on longer prison terms going to mean less tax dollars? I'm pretty sure it will mean more.
Arizona makes the inmates pay for their own meals!

Some of us still haven't forgot..was the ignition punched, or were the thieves using the keys?
I think that IF keys are left in a vehicle and it is stolen, that the insurance should pay zero....I don't know if that is the case here, but after reading the original post and replies, I didn't seem to come across and answer to the question regarding the keys being in the vehicle....so that prompts me to think they were.
I was raised to take good care of my possessions....that means I don't leave my keys in my vehicle and I don't leave my vehicle unlocked....especially when you consider what vehicles cost these days.
Not hardly all going to come true Richard @ 0823AM..I had heard that the two involved are juveniles...So basically they will get off without any penalties to face.
If someone had only had a match while waiting for those "jaws of life" to arrive...........
Couple of punk kids, eh? I wonder how successful they could have been stealing that vehicle if the keys had not been left in there ....??
I'd be willing to bet they were canvassing the neighborhood, up into every driveway until they hit pay dirt, big-a@@ SUV gassed up with the keys inside!!
Completely preventable, this one was.
Does Fruitland or the MD State Police have any policy on high speed chases and when to stop pursuit?
Sounds to me as if this took place on roads where a high speed pursuit was a particularly bad idea.
Good thing no one was going through that stop sign that night.
*Please, for the hard of thinking, this in no way means I think they should be let off the hook. It is just that the potential for disaster needs to be weighed in. I suppose this would make sense if you lost your spouse or kid to an accident under such circumstances.
