This was a reply in reference to the Post about a 48 year long employee being fired from the Daily Times.
"Let's tell the whole story about my father. He was one if not the best advertising salespersons the Daily Times ever had. He was sent to the underperforming areas to build them up. First, Salisbury, then Ocean City, then Delaware. Then when Thompson Publishing was on its tyrade for getting rid of the older employees, they put him at National Advertising, and told him if he didn't meet their quotas (which were 5 times higher than the previous person} he would be let go. My father met and exceeded those quotas, but most of all never complained one bit. If you look in the dictionary at great employee you'll find my father's picture beside the definition. He has in his lifetime been offered positions with newspapers across the country ( some of which were six figure incomes ), but always elected to stay on the Eastern Shore. Gannett moved him about 6 yrs. ago into the position he was in because they were having problems with the ads. being put in the paper wrong. Apparently, that does not matter anymore. And, as far as being at the top of the pay scale, trust me the Daily Times does not pay well. If somebody makes too much, they will do what they need to cut their income. Believe me, my father is not an old fart, and he deserved the respect to be able to retire on his terms not theirs."

Most of us here share your feelings and think highly of your father. Some don't even know your father, but recognize a raw deal when they see it.
Those who do not are not worth commenting on, and I'm sorry you had to see those.
Ms. Gillis, I am truly sorry your father was treated in such a manner. It is quite obvious Greg Bassett has no respect for anything or anyone. He fired your father so the likes of Shanie Shields can sit there and put ads in the paper wrong, if at all. Shanie admitted during a council meeting she doesn't always get the ads right or in the paper timely. This is what you get when you employ friends of the mayor. Your fathers work was greatly appreciated by all of us that used to advertise in the DT. I wish him well in whatever he chooses to do with the rest of his life. I hope he truly enjoys it.
greg bassett did not fire frank. he was let go by the publisher and the heads of his department. despite what you may think, bassett does not sun the paper, he is just in charge of editorial
Well the heads of his department and the publisher needs to get their collective heads out of their collective asses. Greg Bassett could have spoken on behalf of Frank Gillis but he, like all of Barries other puppets left his balls in his other pants at home.
True. Greg Bassett heads up editorial, Frank had 48 years of dedicated service to the advertising department. He was great and it was a privilege to work with him. I know he's a smart man. Frank, take advantage of this time. Take lots of rides on your hog and enjoy your release from the prison known as The Daily Times.
