Weekend Alcohol Consumption May Cause Damage To DNA

Weekends spent drinking and partying may seem like harmless fun for young adults, but new research has revealed that this level of alcohol consumption may actually damage their DNA.

According to Medical News Today, researchers from Autonomous University of Nayarit in Mexico set out to analyze the oxidative damage caused by drinking alcohol in young, healthy people. Oxidative damage is considered damage to proteins, membranes and DNA.

It use to be some birth defects were caused by fetal alcohol syndrome by the mother. The father habits play a large role in the expression of genes in children especially boys. Particularly in the brain.

Some defects of the nervous system are passed on to children through the father line. Excessive use of alcohol affects how genes express themselves and how they either turn off or on at crucial times periods of development.
