DSP News Release: Troopers Searching for Suspect in Theft of Elderly Female’s Purse and Vehicle

- Black male, 20-30 years of age, 5’06”-5’08” tall, 190-220 lbs, large build. Last seen wearing dark zippered hooded sweatshirt with “ECKO UNLTD”, gray sweat pants.

Newark-Troopers are asking the public for help in identifying a male suspect connected in the theft of an elderly woman’s purse and vehicle from the Chestnut Hill Plaza Shoprite as she was shopping.
The incident occurred on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at approximately 3:15 p.m. as a 91 year old female was grocery shopping in the Shoprite grocery store located at 37 Chestnut Hill Plaza, Newark when an unknown male suspect followed her around the store and removed her purse from her shopping cart. The purse contained an undisclosed amount of cash and car keys.
A review of video surveillance captured the suspect exiting the store and driving away in the victim’s vehicle.
The victim’s vehicle is described as a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis, silver in color, four door, white wall tires and silver rims. Vehicle displays Delaware Registration #133567. The vehicle has not been recovered.
If anyone observes the vehicle they are asked to call 911.
