As a longtime MHIC contractor I think it is my duty to tell all that the Maryland Home Improvement Commission is an absolute joke. It exists solely to collect fees and make it difficult to get started in business. I have tried to turn in unlicensed "contractors" before and the commission blows me off. I had a general contractors license first and then had to become licensed to build new homes by getting the Maryland Home Builders Registration and on top of that you need your MHIC license. In Delaware all I needed was my contractors license and I am qualified to build what it takes me three separate licenses to build in Maryland. Good luck people. Maryland sucks the life out of everything we do and the Home Improvement Commission just sucks money out of your wallet.
