India Retaliates Against US Over Diplomat Arrest, Removes Security Barriers At Embassy

The Indian government retaliated Tuesday against the United States for the recent arrest and strip search of an Indian envoy -- going so far as to remove the concrete barriers at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi and, reportedly, demanding American diplomats return their ID cards.

The clash between the two supposed allies escalated rapidly on the heels of last week's arrest of Devyani Khobragade, India's deputy consul general, in New York. She was accused of submitting false documents to obtain a work visa for her Manhattan housekeeper.

But Indian officials claimed she was arrested Thursday as she dropped off her daughter at school, kept in a cell with drug addicts before posting $250,000 bail, and strip-searched. The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed Tuesday that she had been strip-searched. This treatment in particular fueled outrage in India, and contributed to the diplomatic stand-off on Tuesday.

The Indian people have been great allies, that we've sadly forgotten about. They fought alongside the Allies in WWI and WWII.

Now, we've coddled Pakistan for the past decade, what did we get out of that? Our foreign policy positions are an absolute mess.

Everyone turns their back but the economy STILL hasn't begun to improve at the beach. OC and The Town of Fenwick have become ghost towns. Most business are shuttered to the point that even finding a sub sandwich is a challenge. If OC goes, where will the citizens of Salisbury seek employment?

Two more years of this administration to go. Who will survive?

I'm sorry, but I don't see the correlation between what you say and this article. Could you expand?

And how much do we give this human garbage in foreign aid each year? Maybe it's time to cut the money strings and then we'll see how much they miss us.

815-The Indian people and gov't have been fighting against it!

The problem being, our gov't supporting the Taliban in Afghanistan(along with Karzai and the dope dealers), and the Pakistani gov't! We turned our back on one of our greatest allies. For what? Suicide bombers?

1008 please show where we have "turned our back". I guess the landmark Indian nuclear, trade, and defense deals mean we just left them hanging huh?

708-Supporting their enemies, it's quite simple. See how much of those billions of aid to Pakistan went to militarize not the border with Afghanistan, but the border with India.

Sorry guys, but we need to work with India. They've had a few experiences with those mischevious muslims, also. It wouldn't surprise me if this administration was trying to ruin relations with yet another important ally.

Sorry India. When you come here you must obey our laws. You must pay your servants the wages dictated by our laws.

Somehow I have a hard time believing they would allow Americans over there to break their laws and do nothing about it.
