(SYKESVILLE, MD) –Colonel Marcus L. Brown will preside over the graduation of the 140th Trooper Candidate Class of the Maryland State Police. The class of 67 was the first class to elect a female class president in State Police history.
The trooper candidates have completed six months of training in a residential police academy that demands their very best, at all times. After graduation, each trooper will have to complete eight weeks of additional field training with an experienced trooper before they are able to patrol alone. Families, friends and fellow members of the Maryland State Police will be present at the graduation ceremony.
This class includes fourteen military veterans, six prior police officers and eight paramedics. Also in this class, there are nine new troopers who are following in the footsteps of family members. The 140th Candidate Class raised more than $8,500 for various charities by participating in multiple 5K runs throughout the state.
