NAACP Support Of Gay Marriage Reaction

MARYLAND (WUSA) -- The issue of gay marriage has divided black churches. Some say it's pitting religious philosophy against equal rights.

Same Sex marriage in Maryland has been signed into law and takes effect next year. But opponents are working on a petition to force a referendum on same sex marriage on the November ballot.

Karen Artis, a member of Mt. Ennon Baptist Church in Clinton Maryland has talked to her 11-year-old daughter Sydney about gay marriage.

"As far as explaining it to her, she's aware of it and we are fine with it. With the NAACP supporting it, may be people will be more open to discussing it or at least think about it."
