County Commissioners Chilly To Proposal To Close Crisfield High School
Apparently the Somerset County Commissioners are cool to the new superintendent of school’s proposal to close Crisfield High School and create one county high school.
Crisfield was pretty upset at the idea of the school being closed.

Sounds like folks down there accurately predicted her desire on that issue
If they decide to make a centralized school it should be in Westover right by the Intermediate school. It would not be right to make Crisfield students go clear to Princess Anne nor Princess Anne kids go clear to Crisfield. Also Crisfield High does not have only Crisfield kids go there but Smith Islanders too. An hour boat ride for those kids PLUS a half hour bus ride minimum? Not right at all.
Funny, but back in the early 70's, when the "new" Washington High was being planned, the one central school idea was proposed. Crisfield was hands down against that idea; thus, we have two high schools in Somerset County. At the time, all sorts of advantages to the centralized school idea werre touted, mostly in the area of curriculum. There is so much that can be done in one centralized school that can't be accomplished in two very effectively. The new superintendent, by the way, is a product of those times and may remember what we went through. The Crisfield people are never going to go along with the one school idea, even if the CHS school population goes down to 10, which may happen before too long!
9:14 and Washington High is better? Washington high has just as many, if not more, problems than Crisfield. That's why kids transfer from Washington to Crisfield.
Kudos to Rex and the rest of the commissioners for not bowing down to this woman.People in Crisfield OR Princess Anne do NOT want a consolidated high school and they have made that clear repeatedly over the years.Other superintendents tried it and where are they at now? This superintendent does not even consider the Smith Island students and how inconvenient this would be for them!Maybe because Islanders are not "diverse" enough for her????Her and D.Whittington could give 2 cents for THOSE students and their needs because they are not minorities. There,it needed to be said! She wants to coddle the future inmates at the Alternative school and then turn around and punish the kids at the mainstream high schools by putting them together in a powder keg situation. She is also the reason that once my kids leave elementary school they will be shuttled into private schools.
