While some feel the story about an Officer and his K-9 is getting old, the Main Stream Media wants to keep it alive to sell papers and defend Police Chief Bernadette DiPino.
The Anti Albero Bloggers have enjoyed sending me anonymous comments with links back to their stories defending the Chief as well but I refuse to go there as it has been almost 2 years since I've visited their Sites.
Nevertheless, Police Officers continue to send in comments and letters to the editor on a regular basis, clearly bothered by being told there is a gag order on them and removing their first amendment rights.
Here's what I find interesting. A gag order would only be put in place if there's something to hide. I have to agree with one Officer, why would they sell a $10,000.00 K-9 for $1.00 IF the animal wasn't truly injured and in need of retirement? Two OCPD officials stated on the record that they had to see official documents from a Veterinarian before they would allow such a retirement. Then, (of course) I made the statement some time ago about the possibility of the OCPD breaking the law, (or at least abusing their powers) by calling every Veterinarian in a tri-state area to find out if a surgery was done on an animal that was no longer theirs.
What bothers me more than anything is the INSIDERS making contact with Earl Campbell telling him what clothes his Daughter was wearing that day. The next was another INSIDER telling Mr. Campbell the posters that are hanging on his Daughter's walls in her bedroom.
They have done everything in their powers to intimidate this man and his Family, to a point in which they had to leave town for the safety of their children. Are you reading any of this in the Daily Times? No! Why, because all they care about is selling newspaper, at whatever expense that might be.
So when you hear there needs to be an investigation into this matter, it's true and in my honest opinion it should happen. Earl Campbell was not fired from the OCPD. He chose to resign. Out of respect for a man in blue, has the BROTHERHOOD changed in such a way you're only remembered when your ON the force? When you ABUSE your power, one would think it would be for the SAFETY of one of your own, not to attack someone who chose to do what he thought was right and in the best interest of his Partner.
The man stood his ground because he felt he was right. Should the local media make every attempt to bash this man and defame his Family in the hopes of intimidating them and shutting them up? It reminds me of the old Tilghman Administration.
I have to wonder, what will newer Officers think when they see all of this going on. I know I wouldn't want to be in that business if I knew my BROTHERS and SISTERS would turn on me simply because I made a decision similar to Earl Campbell's.
Then to be forced to keep my mouth shut on a matter in which NO CRIME was committed would make me rethink the whole law enforcement issue. One would think Police Officers are in place to protect us from those breaking the law. Can someone please tel me/us what laws have been broken here?
In closing, why won't the Ocean City Town Council allow a meeting with Earl Campbell? Everyone wants to see a receipt from the Veterinarian and Campbell has agreed to bring such documents IF the Council will allow the meeting. It would seem to me, (ESPECIALLY NOW) that they do NOT want the public to see the bill from the Veterinarian because it would put a black eye on the OCPD. Yet the MSM wants to go after Campbell instead.
There are several unanswered questions still out there, ALL of which the Daily Times have conveniently ignored. The only gossip site out there is delmarvanow.com.

I have heard that the town of OC is notorious for their illegal treatment of employees and has had to deal with the EEOC and lawsuits filed by employees on numerous occasions.
I think it would be a great idea for Earl to follow many other town employees examples and he should file a complaint with the EEOC and file a constructive discharge lawsuit against the OCPD, ASAP!
I have lived here many years and I think that the Mayor and council want this issue to go away and that they don't give s sh*t about Campbell or any other city employees who are treated like sh*t. This town is run like a corrupt dictatorship is run. Meehan is more concerned about his real estate business. Overpaid and hardly-worked local governement employees are the good old boys who only give a sh*t about themselves. By the way, does anybody know if Meehan is earning the gigantic salary of around $3,000/week of the city manager in addition to his mayor's salary?
The Mayor is not making any more $, and doing a great job! He is a VERY big supporter of the Chief, so forget anything changing there. Hey, btw, she's gone again for two weeks, patrol Captain also, guess who's in charge, the same Lt. that started all this. There's news for ya Joe.
I think it's more like $4,000 a week that the city manager was making. It does seem like a conflict of interest for the mayor to be representing developers of condo projects. He may not have his name on the sign but he's getting paid.

If you look at the Top News in Ocean City Today published on April29, 2011, Mayor Meehan, and Councilman Jim Hall discuss how their cut of the slots revenue will go to Public Safety (OCPD) and infrastructure. The estimate at that time was $600,000. Chiefy can afford to take a 2 week trip thanks to gambling in the County it would seem.
Scary to think anyone would target a man's family that way.
But then, Salisbury puts bricks through council members' windows.
Did anything ever get done about that, Joe?
This avoidable big mess that she made will still be here when she gets back. She needs to mop it up. She can run but she can't hide.

Maybe the citizens concerned about this matter should attend the Mayor's open house on New Years Day and question the Mayor and Council.

If OCPD's officers are actually being treated wrongly and roughhoused while working in an intolerable and abusive work atmosphere, they should join forces and unite to "step up and help" as 7:27 suggested.
They need to speak up and defend themselves if they are treated like sh#t. Life on earth is tough enough as it is at times, and it is way to short to live it miserably in an abusive work environment. Furthermore, working under such stressful and toxic conditions will cause an employee's physical (as well as mental) health to deteriorate.
ANON 10:01 is absolutely right regarding an employee’s physical & mental health deteriorating from working under stressful & toxic conditions. One’s health is much more important than one’s wealth!
I stood up for myself & defended myself against the GM & her sister when I worked at a hostile work environment in O.C. at a place I refer to as the “Haunted Hotel.” They disrespected, bullied, ridiculed, belittled, threatened to fire, and YELLED at me for 2 ½ loooong years.
Yeah…I figured I would eventually pay the consequences of losing my job just because I did not tolerate their ruthlessness & verbal abuse, but you know what? IT WAS WORTH IT! Not only am I MUCH happier, but I also no longer need to take AnXiEtY medication since I no longer have to cope with working in an abusive & hostile workplace AND my blood pressure is now in the 120’s/80’s range compared to the dangerous level of the 160’s/110’s range it was when I worked there.
It is disgraceful that OCPD has its minions stalking and intimidating the Campbell family. Are they getting a bonus for this? Mr. Campbell ought to turn Charlie loose on their sorry a----. But then, again, that would be another legal matter. There is nothing worse than dirty cops on the take.
Over the years of observing how this city is operated, my theory is that Ocean City brainwashes its employees by overpaying them and that the city is not much concerned with morals or the health of their employees. They scare them by threatening to get rid of their employees and unfortunately they are successful because people know that there are not many jobs in Ocean City that pay well. Mostly a bunch of menial and grunt jobs where the pay is crap.
In any case, I am not sure if Miss DiPino was acting unlawful but I think she needs to explain to the public why she unnecessarily wasted time and resources investigating a civilian when she returns from her 2 week retreat.
