NRG, the parent company of Bluewater Wind, cancelled its power purchase agreement Dec. 27 with Delmarva Power. Bluewater signed the long-term power purchase agreement with Delmarva Power in 2008 to provide Delaware customers with up to 200 megawatts of offshore wind energy.
Delmarva Power officials accepted the termination, which was allowed under the terms of the agreement, and said they would continue to support the state’s long-term renewable energy goals.
“Delmarva Power and NRG worked hard to see this project come to fruition,” said Gary Stockbridge, region president for Delmarva Power. “But the inability to secure a financing partner prevents us from moving forward.”

Thank God, and may Maryland have as much common sense! The idiocy of offshore windmills is not an investment without a government give away. Thank God we won't have this burden put upon us. THINK, people! 13 miles of power under salt water and the maintenance costs out there instead of being onshore; plus the day only wind, if any.... THINK!!!!!

agree totally with 9:11pm. in additions to the fact that NONE of these "hair brained greenie ideas" work and they ALL have to be subsidized by our tax dollars just to get off the ground. they will never provide the power they claim and, as usual, we continue to foot the bill.

Well lets see,no wind power,oil is dirty,coal is smokey,natural gas pollutes the ground water,all we're left with is our own farts.
Don't you think big oil and automakers WANT it to fail? And do their damnest to make sure it fails, removing the threat to their profits?

If it were viable, then "big oil" would be all over it.
The oil companies ran ethanol in the ground by saying it took to long to put new pumps all the stations,then Valero bought all the ethanol refineries for 10 cents on the dollar!
