A Comment Worthy Of A Post 12-5-11

Also just some inside infomation. Joe check into the renovation of Tracy Sahler office with the board of education. Inside sources tell me that an eloborate office renovation has been approved for her office. Yet the county has no money,...unless it's for something or someone they feel is entitled to.

Hey crybaby that wrote this post, why don't you check into it & tell us what is going on?

You seem to have the answers anyway!

Nobody ever listens to me or reads my comments. I have stated on here many times (not sure if it was ever posted) money is allocated ny the government for each type of expense (local, county, state, federal). Money allocated for renovations cannot be transferred to (lets say) pay raises. If the renovation money is not used it goes back to the government (local, county, state, federal). No department has money left over at fiscal year end. That my friends, is just but one thing wrong with this country today.

I would truly like to see less complaints on here by people who do not know of what they speak.

If the Board has a skeleton crew as was stated in an October newspaper article, why is it necessary to turn the auditorium stage into an office? It's because new positions have been created to replace those the public was told were eliminated. If a person is still employed in essentially the same job, but by a different title, it does not create a skeleton crew.

Maybe no one listens to you because you are dead wrong. Monies within the the BOE nonrestricted operating budget can definitely be moved between categories with approval of the BOE board and the County Council. Small office renovations, such as Sahler's alleged redo, come from the board's operating budget from the category of Capital Outlay. During any fiscal year, Money can (and is!) moved in or out of this or other categories at the board's pleasure, and if above a certain level, with approval of the County Council.

You are confusing the Non Restricted Operating budget, which contains a category called Capital Outlay, with the Restricted Capital Budget which is used for large, multi-million dollar renovations.

There is no skeleton staff at the BOE. There is one department that is overstaffed for sure. One employee told me personally that she(he) did not have enough work to do.

Wow! Sounds like Wicomico county needs to hire a consultant again to tell them what they are wasting their money on and what can be cut. The good news I guess is that they are not wasting money on having people in Government identifying where in that Government money is being wasted and what should be cut.

Why doesn't the County simply give that employee a raise instead of wasting money on an office renovation? I'm sure the employee would agree.

I'm not the one to whom you speak, but I thank you for your politeness.

The Board of Ed. does not need a full-time PIO. How can it not be obvious that the position is half-time at best?
There are departments that continue to add personnel no matter what is being said about the budget. Ask about the "full time" jobs of the people in the new centralized enrollment branch. Parents get to drive to the Board to do part of the enrollment and then back to the school to do the rest. So convenient for parents in Mardela, Nanticoke, Pittsville, and Willards. Ask principals and school secretaries how efficiently the enrollment work was done at the central office this summer. Really busy there in November, December with the thousands of kids enrolling. NOT! This was a new idea but not an effective idea. No one will ever admit that, though.

The HR department is getting a total redo, as well. The offices are not just getting updated, the whole area is getting redesigned.

Does the Board think we're stupid enough to believe they've lost positions? They're so unwilling to give a straight answer to any question. If they want to gain public support, how about telling the truth?
