MSP Press Release

LOCATION: N/B Rt. 13 & Centre Road Salisbury, MD

BRIEF RESUME:
On the above date and time, a Trooper from the Salisbury Barrack stopped a 1995 Volvo for a traffic violation. Indicators of criminal activity were being exhibited by the driver and passenger which led to the Trooper to ask for consent to search the vehicle. The Trooper observed un-opened packs of cigarettes in the vehicle, however both of the occupants stated that they did not smoke. During the consent search of the vehicle, the Trooper located 115 cartons of brand name cigarettes along with 20 separate packs of cigarettes not in a carton. The cigarettes were stamped with Virginia tax stamps. Both occupants were placed under arrest. A search of their person revealed handwritten order lists for specific cartons of cigarettes. Both suspects were debriefed and admitted that they make routine trips to Virginia to purchase cigarettes at a lower cost for resale in the State of New York. Agents from the Maryland State Comptroller’s Office are continuing the investigation along with seizing the cigarettes, the suspects U.S. currency and the vehicle used to transport the cigarettes. Both suspects were transported to the Wicomico County Detention center and released pending a hearing before the District Court Commissioner.

Arrested:
1. Andre L. Moorer, B/M, age 42 Far Rockaway ,New York.
2. Derrick Hudson, B/M, age 50 of Rockaway Park, New York.

Both suspects were charged with Transportation of more then two packs of Un-taxed cigarettes through the State of Maryland.

Police should have gave them a choice, sit there and smoke everyone of them cigaretts or go to jail

Don't we have any other major concerns that the police could be handling?
I see this as a form of taxpayer revolt. I say go for it. Starve the beast that is the state.

I wonder if these people took ineo consideration about how much gas they used to get these cigarettes. How much did they make after the sale?

Anon: 12:03 they can buy for around $3.00 a pack and re-sell in NY city for $12.00 a pack. Thats $9.00 a pack x 2150 packs. You do the math.
