Silver Gloves Boxing Tournament

In the first week of the Silver Glove's amateur boxing tounament, Corey Moore, of Salisbury, picked up a well deserved win in the 14-15 year old 100lb. division, against a game Dimetrius Young of Sugar Ray Leonard's gym in Landover MD. Moore, who boxes out of the Main St Gym, avenged a prior loss to Young at a time that can lead to a regional and/or a national Silver Glove Championship.

The tournament is being held at the Rosecroft Raceway in Oxon Hill MD. and will move into it's second week on December 17th.

The tournament, originally scheduled to run on December 10th, was rescheduled to accommodate so many close ties to the title fight between Lamont Peterson, of D.C and Amir Kahn of the U.K. Other local fighters on that card include Salisbury's Fernando Guerrero, Anthony Peterson, of D.C, Seth Mitchell of Brandywine MD. and Dusty Harrison of D.C. and others.

This is a unique Championship card, in that one side of the entire event is made up of local fighters from Maryland and Washington D.C.

On December 17th the Silver Gloves will continue with 2 more boxers out of the Main St Gym stepping into the ring. Brothers Ivan and Rudy Calixto of Delmar will compete in the 12-13yr 100lb division and the 11-12yr 75lb division, respectively.
