Senate Republicans blocked President Obama's $447 billion jobs package on Tuesday, putting the brakes on a bill Mr. Obama has been vigorously promoting over the past month.
By around 7 p.m., the vote tally was 50 to 48, giving Republicans more than the 40 votes needed to filibuster the bill. Voting was kept open for another few hours to allow one more senator -- Democrat Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire -- to get back to Washington to cast a vote in favor of the legislation. With Shaheen's vote, the Mr. Obama can at least claim a symbolic victory with a simple majority voting in favor of his legislation.
Still, two Democrats -- Sens. Ben Nelson of Nebraska and Jon Tester of Montana -- sided with Republicans.

The United States Senate: The only place in the world where 51% is not consitered a majority.
You are right, 8:47. I mean, look at all the GOP Senators who voted for it.
I am so glad it failed, I want everything that stupid bastard endorces to go down. We need this president to fail and go down in history as the worst ever! Then maybe folks will start to realize that you can't put a freshman in a office that requires years of knowlage of how to run a government and a country!
Gerald,Obama wanted the bill to fail he wants America to fail it is his lifelong ambition.
I applaud the Republican minority for being single handedly responsible for blocking the economy destroying Obam Bam bill. They apparently have this ability even though the Demacraps have control of the senate; they are miracle workers to be certain.
This administration doesn't have a very good track record on stimulus bills.Fool me twice shame on me.
I see Ben Nelson wasn't more money from our crooked ass President for his vote
