Do you give money to the homeless, beggars, panhandlers?

No. I have bought food and drink, but not usually handing out cash.
Unfortunately no, because I never have any extra money to give. I wish I could though.

i do all the time...when the dems steal my money through "taxes" and give it to these people who clearly dont know how to handle money...or life for that matter.
I try to whenever I can. We could be one of these people pretty soon. There is one specific guy around my area that I refuse to help because one person I know bought him breakfast at a Royal Famrs but he refused it becaus he only accepted money. That guy can go suck an egg for all I care.
Usually just food,but last week I did put $20 worth of gas in a vehicle for 2 people who are literally living in their car.
I give taxes to Obama so I qualify in providing money to beggars and panhandlers right?
Rarely, but I do give to organizations the feed, clothe and shelter them like Salvation Army, HALO and United Way and other local ministries.
We give to Halo. They feed the hungry twice a day on south blvd. building. We have a clothing ministery for clothing to give to children who are in need. These adults who are homemless can take care of themselves. There are places they can eat, take a shower and sleep if they choose to. They have food stamps, welfare. The money can be used to purchase alcohol/drugs.
There is a guy on south salisbury blvd. begging for money to get to baltimore. My son answered him saying "You have been trying to get to baltimore for years" how about if I drive you there and drop you off???? no answer.
I have, on occasion, done both.
I don't give money to people. I do give food to people. I give money to HALO. I donate clothing and other items to HALO to sell or give to people in need. I have also bought bags of groceries and taken them to HALO. I don't view it as charity, but rather helping out people that are down on their luck. As one other poster put it, we are all one job loss from being out of our home.
I am not wealthy but feel that I have been blessed with good health and what I do have. I give on a regular basis to Hope in Salisbury and the Sunday Breakfast Mission in Wilmington. I know that this money is put to good use and it helps those who are less fortunate. I believe it is God's will for us to help those who may be down on their luck. These organizations are not like our Federal Government who in many cases throw money down a rat hole. A lot of the takers are really not so bad off but our entitlement give aways keep them sucking.
It is my observation that those who need help the most are entirely too proud to stand around and beg. Unfortunately, I have been taken a few times by a good sob story so I no longer give money to those who approach me around town. My husband has a big heart so he still gives out a few bucks if he has it on him.
I used to, but now the government gives my money to them. Hence creating the middleman so he can take his cut.
I used to. Then one day someone approached me while I was pumping gas. He wanted money "to buy some food." I gave him a couple of dollars, but before I let go of the bills I said, "You aren't using this to buy beer, are you?"
He assured me he wasn't.
After I finished filling my tank, I went back inside to get my change. There were about four people in line. At the register was the guy I'd just given money to, holding a bottle of beer in one hand . . . and handing the checker my hard earned money with the other.

Nope. I would not. When in NYC they used to be on every corner, not anymore that I have seen, I never give anyone money anyplace.
I gave a man food that had a sign in his hands that said will work for food. We were on our way to the hosipital and he was standing on the corner but never money.
there's a guy always by foodlion on nanticoke road who panhandles all the time, word is he has a job and house, but gets people to give him more money!

Nope. I give to Halo, our church's food drives, Salvation Army, etc. Don't give cash. It goes to the nearest store that sells liquor.

Absolutely NOT. There is no reason for a person not to work. I've been hungry before and I never begged for something for nothing. Too many people spend too much time trying to scam the system.

Absolutely not. There are more handouts available to homeless people, beggars, and panhandlers than the rest of us who work full-time and sometimes second jobs. If you give them money, they'll spend it on booze and cigarettes. It's amazing how those who are broke will still find a way to drink and smoke.
On occasion I have given money, and I have given gas a couple of times. As 11:21 writes, we could very well be in their (the homeless people's) shoes. While many might use the cash to buy alcohol, others would buy food and other necessities. Who are we to judge?
yes. shame is some of the people who are supposed to be compassionate to them AREN'T. A local minister is one of the most prejudiced men ever toward these people, been around much too long too. these homeless have names and souls. they need our help!
