Sussex Officials Debate Gambling Zoning District

Proposed ordinance would restrict casino to major roads

GEORGETOWN — Sussex County Council is still mulling over the nuts and bolts of a proposed commercial gambling zoning district for unincorporated areas of the county.

Under the proposed ordinance, casinos or other gambling venues would be restricted to parcels with access to the county’s main corridors – routes 1, 13 and 113 – and be subject to a series of regulations. There are currently no casinos in Sussex County, but legislation has been introduced in the General Assembly to allow construction of a venue in southern Delaware.
