Dollar Rises As Global Stock Markets Plunge

WASHINGTON (AP) - The dollar is rising against the euro and other major currencies as a selling spree in global stock markets increases demand for lower-risk investments.

Asian and European markets plunged early Thursday as traders absorbed the Federal Reserve's bleak assessment of the U.S. economy. U.S. shares followed, with indexes sliding more than 2 percent by midmorning.
