Deportation Could Tangle Civil Rights Case

Lawyers defending El Salvador native Roxana Orellana Santos in her $1 million lawsuit against the Frederick County Sheriff's Office are lamenting the possibility of her impending deportation weeks before she is scheduled to appear in federal court.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement denied a deferral of Orellana Santos' removal Sept. 14 and scheduled her deportation for Sept. 30, according to CASA of Maryland, one of the groups representing Orellana Santos in the lawsuit.

Zorayda Moreira-Smith, a CASA staff attorney representing Orellana Santos in her immigration and federal case, said the 31-year-old is due to check in with ICE officials today with a flight itinerary for her departure.

She has also filed for a reconsideration after immigration authorities denied a previous application for an extended stay, Moreira-Smith said.

Good, you are living here tax free if you are not a legal citizen so how can you expect to be able to sue us?
