Salisbury University Parking Scam

Joe,

I just learned something about SU not many people know. Students at SU are charged a whopping $110.00 a year to park in satellite parking lots owned by the University. For $110.00 you get a parking permit to display on your vehicle so that roving patrols can readily identify those vehicles who are parking "legally". BUT...here is the kick in the nuts. Anytime a special event occurs - such as the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new building last Tuesday - half of the parking lots were blocked off to allow for visitor parking. Student parking was prohibited even though they had paid $110.00 for the right to park. This also happened during the snow storms when parking was prohibited on city streets. Students who didn't pay for parking were permitted to park in the lots and those who paid were left with no place to park. Seems as though Comrade Dudley-Eshbach likes to change the rules to suit herself as well as a public official we all know.

Your Kidding Right? I am always amazed at how much this community Loathes the University. SU Does wonders for the local Community and yet is the target of many attacks. these are special occasions only and not the normal occurrence, and I'm sure if the university would have not help out the students in the snow there would have been a post saying "how horrible the university is to not help the students just cause they don't have a pass."

I am a current student at Salisbury University. I have been attending the school for 3 years now and let me tell you I WILL NEVER BUY A PARKING PERMITT FOR THAT SCHOOL EVER. You spend roughly $230 a year to be able to POSSIBLY park in the parking garage, but trying to find a legit parking spot on campus is tougher then pulling teeth. It is an absolute scam to buy a parking ticket for the university, I have been telling other students/freinds this for years.

Damned if you do, Damned if you don't...

Enough Said... That is all...

It is very bad ... You pay all that money to park but its not a garenteed designated spot..... Just another way to gouge the student!!!! That is why many young people take their first two years of college at Wor Wic (wonderful school) and not throw their money away on the same courses at SSU...

wah wah wah. it cost $300.00 to park at schools like university of maryland and towson, where students have to get to campus 45 mins early just to find a parking spot. suck it up, the school isnt that big. walk.

I think we should charge DUDLEY-ESHBACH for all the FOOD she eats at TAX PAYERS EXPENSE; looks like she could do without food for a year or so,

and charge her for the home and car she lives and rides in.

The President rips off the kids and probably uses their parking permit funds to supplement her DONUT EATING HABIT!

Man, these students need to learn to spell!!

11:21 - Your comment to just "walk" should go for EVERYONE, including faculty and visitors. Remember, the students are the ones PAYING. Eshbach is the biggest hypocrite. Her residence (paid for by taxpayers) is directly across the street but she has an assigned parking spot. Maybe she should WALK, don't ya think???

Dudley-Eshbach's parking spot has it's own security camera, and it's monitored. So make sure you don't park there. But I guess that would be a safe place to be if you were being victimized by some criminal since all the other security cameras are NOT monitored!

You do realize that those schools you named have at least 10,000 more students and they are in a city twice the size of Salisbury right? I walk from behind Wendy's pretty much everyday to the furthest point from it on campus. Not complaining about the walk at all moron I am saying that the school is taking money right out of the students pocket, and if there pocket is anything like mine it is a tough pill to swallow. But hey your right I mean lets just take a look at two schools who don't compare to SU what so ever and just use them as an example. Bet you didn't graduate from there huh?

Sorry for my grammatical errors on a website while I am trying to speed type at work without getting in trouble. Next time I will know I am being graded though and I will certainly make sure to use spell check provided by the comments box here.....you got my point thats all I care about on this website.

11:32-what is your problem with heavy (ok, fat) people? You can fix fat, but not stupid. Take note.

11:40-Couple of comments: Dr Janet does not have a parking space; she has parking spaces. Yes, Spaces. Also, I heard that she does not live in the residence. Lives in Nutters. It's a fact that all of the cameras are monitored-24/7-in rotating order.

All-worse than the parking fees are all of the classes that the professors cancel. Now, that's a rip off.

The issues on the Salisbury University campus go well beyond the parking issues. Dudley-Eshbach can build all the fancy big buildings she wants to and brag about the economic impact that SU brings to Salisbury, but that does not mask the issues on the campus like: violence, gangs, the illegal drug use by students that is out of control, and so is the alcohol consumption by students, the financial misdoings of department chairs and other administrators, the lack of academic rigor of the courses, etc. etc. SU is a institution of lower learning not higher learning!

all im reading here is "WAHHHH!"

3 years there including Post Grad. Never had a parking pass and got two tickets for a whopping total of $80.00. Parking passes are for suckers.

If we are going to bash the University, lets at least get our facts straight. The $110 permit is for 'on campus' parking. Not all permits are $110. Below is the complete parking fee schedule.

$110 Main Campus Permit (Green)

$90 Parking Garage Permit (Yellow)

$90 Red Permit Faculty/Staff

$40 Overload Faculty (Red)

$75 East Campus Permit (Gold)

$35 Evening Only Permit (Blue)

$20 Motor Scooter Permit

Everyone pays for parking, staff, faculty, and students. And when there is a special event or visitor everyone is displaced- not just students.

To the commenter who's complaint started this post - just take down your parking permit, and "become a visitor" there for a special event! How hard is that?

There are plenty of creative ways to find parking near campus for free. For example, if you are there for a 50 minute class, park in the loading zone with your flashers on. Include a note saying something like, "Loading classroom materials in xx building. Be back soon!" Chances are, they won't even see there is a car in the loading zone. And you can just move your car around campus all you want for a long day.

There are so many cars on campus, you can also park in visitor's parking spaces. Nobody is going to remember your car, unless you park in about the same place each day. On the off-chance you get written up, go to Public Safety and tell them your brother or sister came to visit and drove the car in to check out the campus. I think you get two "gimmees" a semester on that policy.

Think creative, people!

I don't feel sorry for the faculty members having to pay to park....they should charge them double since I hear that their children can go to a state university tuition free!!

Salisbury University is an ok school for locals, however they actually accept out of staters for the money grab than locals who's parents taxes support the school.
All of the Mayrland university system is just state supported (taxpayer) welfare for these who could never make it in private industry! Go there, take a course listen to the bs that is fed to these kids and see if you agree!
and all those new buildings are removed from the tax roles!

Loading zones are marked for a reason. Screw the poor guy trying to make ONE of his many deliveries huh?

I hope the parking police read this and start checking the places you mention.

How creative is that?

I didn't know so many students came to this site. That explains a lot.

I didn't know that Dr E was disliked so. I've met her and she seemed like a decent sort.

A parking garage permit costs $90 for 2 semesters. The catch is, they obviously sell more permits than are spaces available, but you can also PAY to park in the garage daily. The last time I went to park, there were THREE spots left on the roof. I don't what happened between my first semester 2 years ago and now, but it is difficult to park anywhere, especially if there is an event.

Sounds like a biz opportunity to me....rent a large vacant space/lot/property, get a bus and charge students to park there. Drive them to SU and back to their cars for less than SU charges for a parking permit.

Not all faculty members get the perk of free tuition for family members- depends on your status & when you were hired.

The camera thing is an out and out lie. Why do people feel the need to make stuff up just to stir the crap? Yes she has a parking space in front of Holloway Hall and that comes with the job. So what? It definately ain't monitored by full time cops on multiple cameras or whatever that stupid crap was.

George Mason University probably runs the biggest parking scam operation. They charge $275 a semester for the cheapest package (garage costs $550). But that is not the worst part. They have all these different types of citations. For example you can get a $75 fine if you just forget to put your permit on your dashboard. Fines for parking in restricted zones can go up to $250! They even ticket you if you park over a line. They also have a bunch of spaces with "faded lines" so it looks O.K. to park in them. Once you park and walk away they run over and ticket you. There is 1 spot alone where they probably ticket 3-4 cars a day in. They also have meters where there are not 60 minutes in an hours. Top all of that off with not having enough spaces!! Million Dollar Scam opperation!
