A friend of mine retired from a 50 year + career at a investment company tells a story about this topic.

She says it always amazed her how the super rich always thought the same way about letting someone else take the depreciation. She tells one particular story of an arms dealer worth in excess of a billion dollars (now deceased) who would comb though the newspaper when he needed a vehicle. He would look for telephone exchanges from the low income neigborhoods hoping he could find someone who bought more then they could afford and he would get a good deal.
