Omaha Teacher In Student Fight Flap Is Fired

The Omaha school board has fired a 39-year-old teacher accused of taking two eighth-grade students outside a school building to settle their differences with a fight.

The board voted 11-1 on Wednesday night to dismiss Patrick Kocsis (KOH'-sihs). He's been on paid leave since the incident on Aug. 22.

Mmmmm , can't say it's good or bad. Maybe nothing happened that I would consider bad.

While the solution the teacher used was "do-able" some years ago, and maybe even our parents used it so kids could settle disputes, as a veteran teacher he should have known it is illegal and contrary to probably any school policies in the country. A teacher just cannot take two kids outside and encourage their fighting. He should have used common sense. For that, he now has no job and may not ever teach, since this episode will follow him.

I don't see what the big deal is. Sometimes fighting is called for. Not killing people. FIGHTING. As long as it doesn't get out of control it is a great way to solve differences. People now are so afraid of getting hit they talk the talk but can't walk the walk. It's pathetic. And even if it was my child doing the talking even I say they better be able to back it up. I'm not a smother mother.

as long as he didnt charge admission or tape it for pay-per-view, there is no problem. they were going to fight anyway, he was making sure it was fair and looked out for their safety.
