LONDON (AP) - British health officials say they will lift the ban on gay men donating blood _ as long as their last sexual contact with another man was more than one year ago.
The U.K. health department said Thursday the change would be implemented in November after a new review found no evidence to support the ban.

Yeah, they're lifting the ban because gay men have not been a leading transmitter of HIV for over a decade.
So what's with the obsession with gays on this blog? Somehow, I doubt that there's a spirit of supporting the civil liberties of our gay brothers and sisters on here?
i'm not a homophobe, but this policy was put in place for a reason. If i ever needed some blood, i pray it didn't come from a fruit.

I was always told HIV/AIDS spread through unprotected sex and through body fluids.
Now all of a sudden they say blood is okay? No thanks. The medical and scientific fields are always correcting themselves.
In a few years they will say something different. I would prefer non-homosexual/lesbian/bi-sexual blood please.
