The markets posted big gains on Thursday morning after a round of upbeat data and positive developments on the European sovereign debt crisis boosted confidence on Wall Street. Ten minutes after the opening bell, the Dow soared 225 points, or 2.1%, and the S&P 500 jumped 1.9%.

While the Dow may have closed higher than yesterday's closing, the rally didn't last ... stocks mainly fell over the course of the day's trading, with the opening bell being the highest point of the day.
That jump all occurred in the overnights/futures markets.
