In a preliminary survey of the Sheriff’s Department, Wicomico Youth & Civic Center, Wicomico County Public Works and Wicomico County Emergency Services; the initial cost estimate to deal with the Hurricane Irene emergency is $90,000. This is a preliminary number and is subject to recalculation.
In order to qualify for public assistance reimbursement consideration by MEMA/FEMA, Wicomico County must document $322,000 in hurricane-related expenses. The total will come from all government entities in the county not just the Wicomico County government itself. Included would be the City of Salisbury and other government entities.

What was one valuable lesson learned from Hurricane Irene -
The Wicomico County landfill debris sections all run smoothly without any County workers.
Despite heavy traffic - the debris sections at the landfill functioned normally. This measure alone saved Wicomico County thousands of dollars in overtime pay, equipment cost, not to mention manpower.
I say change the procedure to self-serve.
I thought maybe that was why they were making such a big deal out of Irene, to get federal money. Whether it was true or not.
People went out and helped each other without knowing about some bogus curfew never reported or unavailable because of power outages. They went out and cleaned up on their own initiative, and continue doing so today without government help. We all knew how to prepare, how bogus the "81 mph category 1" claims meant 61 mph or less and only 45 sustained was. That's because we walked outside to see for ourselves and kept out of harm's way all by ourselves. The MSM and governments did nothing but inform people that they were lying and will do so during the next event. I've got a number of heavy equipment keys and will push up the brush if needed when I'm there to dump my debris, so you county workers won't need to come out and collect overtime on my dime. After all, I helped pay for that equipment, I should be able to run it.
Political debris, yes. Real storm debris, no problem.

Amen brother, I was one of the dozens waiting in line when the citizens took the matter into their own hands. We were there - and we know better.
The citizens that "broke into" the facility should have been arrested. Bunch of pompous arrogant butt heads
