Striking Verizon Workers Deny They Are Sabotaging Customers' Cables

While Verizon staffers in several states and Washington, DC, continue to picket their employer, there are reports of an increased number of sabotaged Verizon phone cables and boxes — 20 in one 48-hour period alone. Facing allegations that the vandalism is being done by striking workers, accusations the union denies having anything to do with.

I really have a problem seeing those striking Verizon workers on Rt. 50. When so many are out of work, such as my son-in-law, I'm afraid I can't feel the pain of the VeriZOn employees. They should feel mighty grateful that they have a job, and we all know the wages and benefits that they enjoy. It's shameful that the unions would have anyone striking in this country during these really tough times. I assume they can't be fired, because that's what should happen. Surely there are people out there who would be delighted to have one of those jobs!

The reason they are on strike is because the company wants them to take 50% paycut! Between the so called commissioned based pay percentage which is unattaintable paying for healthcare and cutting their pensions (so you have to put more of your own money into 401k)it equals half a paycheck from what they used to get. After the company made 20 BILLION last year. Please everyone before you bash do your homework.

5:58, I totally agree with you! I am so tired of seeing the ones out on the Mt. Hermon Road! We have faced job losses in our family. They should be thankful to have jobs! And one more thing to the ones on strike.... stop waving at me every time I pass you, expecting me to wave back!! I am not in a parade for crying out loud!!!

Don't worry, these striking slugs will never work for Verizon again.

It took me 6 weeks to get my land line/DSL working again after verizon messed it up..... I feel nothing for those workers. Not one of them knew what they were doing. All they wanted to do was pass the buck and make excuses or pass me to the next person. Each and ever one of them promised it would be fixed the next day and they would call me back. I got not one call back from anyone. 6 WEEKS to fix a problem THEY created.

That's right, half a paycheck is better than none. Everyone should pray you don't get laid off or fired, unemployment checks are not a guarantee. :-(

a 50% pay cut still probably pays them more than they are worth!!
I would guess most are uneducated and high school dropouts that make more than all of us!

Landlines are a dying service. Verizon should do the fiscally sound thing and sell off their entire division. The workers want the same benefits and pay that they got when landlines were still a dominate market. It's not. Either take a cut, or get hired by Windstream/Century Link.

6:26, it looks as if you're outnumbered. As several have pointed out, just half of the typical Verizon employee's wages and benefits would still be more than so many more who are working are getting and surely a whole lot more than all those withot jobs are getting! As 7:21 says, "Half a paycheck is better than none." Be thankful for what you have. No sympagthy here.

Keep on screwing the woking man, and there will be no working men. I am not a union supporter, but this crap has to stop somewhere. As stated, Verizon is making BILLIONS, it's not like they are going under.

looks like a bunch of workers from shore stop to me. lucky to have a job

Keep in mind this is Verizon landline services! They are lucky to even have those cushy jobs! Landline is dying, Verizon Wireless has been propping them up for years. There needs to be cuts made.

If you don't like it QUIT. Guess what this is America and it's OK for companies to GASP make a PROFIT, that's what they supposed to do. Not pay every last cent and more to ungrateful employees! More of Obama's socialism rubbing off on people - OBAMA's NOT YO MAMA!

Unions Destroyed American, plain and simple, Unions made America uncompetive. It's time someone stodd up to Unions - God Bless Verizon - don't back down!

We have done our homework. 14 million unemployed. 9 point something unemployment. Unemployment benefits running out. No jobs.

And you expect people to be on you side and rally behind you? Fat chance.

Millions of others didn't have a union behind them telling them we have people over a barrel and can do what we want.

They were forced to take cuts, laid off or just plain fired.

Keep biting the hand that feeds you. Soon that hand won't be there.

Unions also created the living wages and working middle class that are now the new Nascar Wal-Mart republicans that seem to have a lot of opinions but seem to forget how they got where they did
perhaps it was an inflated dream you can't let ignorant uneducated working people assemble and make demands that's just Un-American

The unions like to raise that flag to justify their being. Maybe it's even true. Don't know, don't care.

This is now. Everyone has seen how unions always have gotten greedy and corrupt. They don't need reminding on this blog or any other.

You want to strike against your employer? Go ahead, that's your right. But don't expect the public to get behind you when their future is so uncertain.

Just like homosexuals and gay marriage, keep it to yourselves. We don't want any part of it.

Heaven forbid that your employer would expect you to contribute towards your own health insurance!! That is just an unrealistic demand!! (Insert Sarcasm Here) You guys are going to be on the losing end of this battle. You expect a company to pour every dime it makes back into its employees wages while those very same employees do even less work. Unions are nothing more than legalized thugs. If you stopped and opened your eyes instead of your greedy hands, you would see just how much the union is taking from you to begin with. The only guarantee you get from a union is that you will pay dues, nothing more. Idiots.

7:32 (Pragmatic), thank you! As others have stated, Verizon workers may not even know how well off they are, especially compared to so many others. Very few companies pay all of the employees' health care costs; that's just unrealistic. Verizon workers may now have to join the real world. Tragic!

Heaven forbid you should have to put your OWN money into a 401K!!! It is called saving for retirement right? It is a priviledge if your employer contributes, but should by no means be expected!
