Christmas In August Brings Back Much Needed Red Kettles

WASHINGTON -- It's going to be Christmas in August for those in need, as a holiday tradition comes to supermarkets in the D.C. area.

The Salvation Army will set up its Red Kettles outside 50 Giant Food stores throughout the WTOP listening area this and next weekend as a part of its "Need Knows No Season" campaign. The bell ringers and kettles will operate from 4 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 12 and Aug. 19 and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Aug. 13 and Aug. 20.

The campaign is driven by the idea that Salvation Army programs that help people survive aren't any less important during the summer than the winter.
