BILLINGS, Mont. - Wildlife agents were trying to capture a grizzly bear in Yellowstone National Park after it killed a Michigan hiker in the second fatal bear attack this summer in the famed park, authorities said Monday.
The body of John Wallace, 59, was discovered Friday along a trail in an area of the park known for its high population of bears. An autopsy concluded he died from injuries sustained in a bear attack.
"We know of no witnesses" to the attack, park superintendent Dan Wenk said. "We think we provide visitors with pretty good knowledge and techniques to keep them safe in the backcountry. Unfortunately, in this case it didn't happen that way."

why kill the bear?
the guy was in the bears home.
when you go into bear territory your open yourself up to become dinner.
The bear saw that man and thought, "that's the biggest chicken I've ever seen!"
It is a shame that we will allow this bear to be killed just for being a bear. We humans should not hold ourselves up on such a pedestal.
hhmmm
if they do kill it can i have the rug :)
It's safer to hike in yellowstone park than in P.G. County or D.C..
There are many signs in the parks that warn you of bears. I've never seen a sign in the parks around D.C. or P.G. County that warn you not to hike.
More people are killed in D.C. hiking than in all the parks by bears.
P.G. County has a curfew because of the crime.
let's save the bear, yea after all a bear's life is worth more than a human's life.
Agreed. The bear was protecting it's environment. It is unfortunate that the hiker was attacked, but that's the chance you take when you hike in bear country.

Is a bear's life worth more than a human's?... No. But the guy is already gone. Will killing the bear bring him back? No. Before you say that killing this bear will save others need I remind you there are plenty of bears out there.
If there are no "witnesses", how will they know what bear to kill?
Don't go on the bear's turf. She probably had her young around and didn't want them threatened.
