U.S. Rules That Marijuana Has No Medical Use. What Does Science Say?

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) ruled on Friday that marijuana has "no accepted medical use" and should therefore remain illegal under federal law — regardless of conflicting state legislation allowing medical marijuana and despite hundreds of studies and centuries of medical practice attesting to the drug's benefits.

The judgment came in response to a 2002 petition by supporters of medical marijuana, which called on the government to reclassify cannabis, which is currently a Schedule I drug — like heroin, illegal for all uses — and to place it in Schedule III, IV or V, which would allow for common medical uses.

Second paragraph, first line...it says marijuana is classified to be just as bad as HEROIN. How stupid is that? Anybody who claims that marijuana is as addictive or harmful as heroin is wrong. Marijuana should be legal and there are plenty of facts to back it up. I do not get it. And for anyone wanting to say the facts are that it is harmful and/or deadly keep in mind this....it is not possible to overdose on marijuana. It is far more likely to overdose of Tylenol which is an actual OTC medication. Take a whole bottle of Tylenol and i guarantee it'll be your last headache.

Spoken like a true pothead.
The real issue is that if we really clamp down of pot smoking in this country, how will the mexican drug cartels afford bigger and more advanced weapons?

Pot has been proven to cause mental illness.

Sand has no medical use, yet it is legal to have it. So why not pot?

If everyone who wants to smoke it could legally grow their own, the Mexican drug cartels would have no demand to sell to, and they would crumble and fall.

The gov't classified MJ as a schedule 1 drug because there was "no accepted medical use" for it back in the '70s. It's pretty obvious now that there are medical uses for it, but the gov't has been harping on it for so long that it's hard to undo the propaganda that we've spent billions on. Add in the lobbying by Big Pharma to keep it out of the mainstream and it's easy to see that it's going to be a while before it all works out.

Birth has been proven to cause mental illness. Lets take you, for example.

Dont make ignorant and illegitimate comments about something you obviously have no idea about.

It is totally outrageous for the People of the United States to continue to allow their government to tell them what they can and cannot place into their bodies.

We own our bodies. Period. End of story.

Get out of our lives! I am sick and tired of this "nanny state" who claims to be LOOKING OUT FOR ME. I am an adult. A Human Being. So push off!

"Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance. It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded." Maybe it wasn't Lincoln that said this but it sure does wrap it up nicely. In alcohol prohibition we had drive by shootings and gangs financed by the black market. Same here. And MJ was made illegal to keep white women from sleeping with black jazz musicians according to the testimony given to Congress at the time. And if you want to ban bad things explain all the gambling.

If God has placed all manner of plant and animals on this earth for us to use, then laws banning plants are essentially saying God made a mistake.
