A Comment Worthy Of A Post

Jennifer Smith has left a new comment on your post "Wicomico County Council to Tackle Humane Society":

This comment is from Noah's Arks Rescue.

We are in SC, not in NC and we help abuse cases all over the South and beyond. When we make arrangements with a Shelter to help an animal, we expect the shelter to be HONEST with the information they give us. We take their word for it they are going to do what they say. We wanted to get Ellie Mae out ASAP so she could be treated immediately because her medical condition would deteriorate in the shelter not being treated. We stepped up to save her, not to let her die at the hands of people that lied to us. We were told she had a 10 day stray hold and could not be released until that was up. We were also told her medical condition was not critical and that she was getting medical care and would be fine during that time. We had never dealt with this Shelter before and had no reason to not believe them. When we found out what had happened to this sweet pup, we were SHOCKED and OUTRAGED. We DO NOT believe this dog had rabies and if she did we would have gotten her medical care close by where the shelter is. All we cared about was saving her life and were willing to sign ANY waiver and take FULL responsibility for anything that happened while in our care. The system is BROKEN in a facility where the FOCUS is not on saving a life. By us taking her when we called, a spot would have been freed up to save another dog. That would have been two dogs saved. Instead, she was euthanized. If you feel this was right, then you have the right people in place. If you feel this is wrong, then it is up to you to stand up and make your voice heard. Animals matter and they have NO ONE but us to fight for their right to LIFE. Please, do your part and don't let more animals die. Find out what is wrong and get to the bottom of it. The animals in your county depend on your voice to speak for them.

Amen Jennifer, Linda Lugo should be ashamed of how the humane society has been run under her command. If you see her on the street, shun her and throw fruit at her.

Throw fruit at someone? It's easy to see what a humanitarian you are.

Thank you Jennifer for writing Joe & getting things put in the proper focus!
The people of this County must stand up to get the Humane Sociey running smoothly & with care & concern as it was years ago. I for one do not want another penny of my hard earned money going to those who are not held responsible for doing their jobs there!
Ms Lugo has an answer for everything----she is the ultimate con artist at making herself look as if she really cares.

Cty Leaders should be held responsible for not taking hold!!!!

I don't know what to do but I too believe that the organization needs some redirection. I don't check this site often enough to see any responses... But I wish the news would stand up and bring it to the attention of those of us who care but need guidance where to start in cleaning up the organization.

I don't think everyone knows the full story. This lady writes from South Carolina having never been here to even see the H/S.

All I can say is WOW to that letter.

9:51, the "full story" is never told completely from one side. However, she does know the full side of her story. And it is a side we would not have heard had she not put it out there. The Humane Society is welcome to also put their version of their story out there to help clear things up.

There are some things you cannot avoid and neither side of the story can deny:
1. The dog was taken into custody and turned over to the Humane Society where it was supposed to receive the best of care and consideration.
2. There were a number of interested parties willing to take on this dog.
3. The dog was euthanized without need.

How do you explain #3 away? The dog did NOT have to die.

Two things: Firstly, it isn't necessary to physically walk through a facility to know that what you're being told while a dog is alive and what the public is being told after the dog has been killed doesn't match. One of those tales is not true. I know of this facility AND Ms. Smith's rescue group only by reputation, and I can say without hesitation that I believe Ms. Smith's version. These "humane" society people refused to go out and help the dog in the first place, so when the city freed her and delivered her to them, they were being forced to do their jobs -- something apparently they don't feel necessary to do in exchange for their salaries. It is MY OPINION that Ellie Mae was killed as retribution.

Secondly, given a choice of what to throw at Ms. Lugo, I wouldn't waste the fruit. Now if a grenade were handy...

Ms. Smith, please don't judge us all by the heartless humane (?)society in our county. There are so many animal lovers here. We need assistance in figuring out how to "fight city hall." The officials seem to ignore us. It takes a knowledgeable individual to organize people for a cause. Do you have any suggestions for us? Wicomico County residents: is there anyone out there who is a good organizer? Too many animals have died already. I want to help.

There is a Board at the Humane Society that's responsible for the Way it's run!!!

Go on line, file your complaints with The County Exec., the Council, the Daily Times.

To much has been going on for to long out there with the many complaints filed ! Nothing is being done!!! Problems seem to be "sluffed" over. That's our tax money---A Board of Directors is responsible & they need to be made accountable!!!!

On TV these two Rescue Groups were horrified and basically said things are "not right" at this HS. Many of us can verify that statement!!!

Much has gone on there & it seems to be Lugos word stands above all the complaints that are given ! Proof is what should be demanded of them----they have gotton away with thes actions Way to Long!!

In order to help, file complaints , back them up, record what you say to Lugo & record what she says, if not it's gonna come out another way as always!!

I saw Ellie Mae almost as soon as she was posted for a rescue. I am only 2 hrs or less from this shelter and I was willing to go pick her up. The shelter knew several people had called to save her. As soon as Jennifer at Noahs Ark saw her, I thought for sure things would work out for Ellie Mae. It is hard to believe a shelter would PTS a sweet animal like this with so many offering to save her. The very people put in place to protect the animals. Jennifer is so right, this system is so broken it makes me sick. Outraged that this shelter never really gave Ellie Mae a chance. Shame on you, Shame, Shame, Shame.
