Of course not. Why should Cops have to follow the law as well? You didn't know that once you are a cop it means you can pretty much do whatevr you want. No speed limit, ever, stop signs...psh who cares. Waiting in line at a traffic light, it is just not happening. I am a pretty young guy, but in my short time on thi Earth one thing I have learned is probably the most unequal balance of power in the US is Cops vs. Citizens. Cops are everyday people like us but because they take an oath to protect the public they are able to act as they please. Using "laws" such as disturbing to public as leverage so that you have to keep quiet(freedom of speech). I am so sick of seeing this done.
So typical of the police. Demand respect and do everything possible to make it harder and harder for me to do. It's funny how a cop will fly by me going 70+ but pull me over for doing the same. I have actually seen a cop turn on his lights to make cars so down so he could pass them. Was there an actual call? My guess would be no since the lights went off after he passed the cars.
Amen BKLN. Seeing law enforcement do this stuff make me sick. (But I did follow two black SUV's all the way to the bay bridge a while back. Cut tons of time off my trip. What's good for the goose...) I wish law enforcement was about law enforcement, not revenue.
Anonymous said... police are more important than you or i. so are medical technicians and firemen. why should i be worried about it?
Why is a policeman doing nothing more important than anyone else? If he was going to a call as some of you brilliant people suggest then why would he not turn his lights on and just go through the traffic light? Because he isnt going to a call he is probably going home. Police have been abusing their power since they have been around, I have seen and heard many scenarios which I know are unethical such as going to the bar in your police vehicle.....yea it is just plain unfair how much leverage cops have. Not to mention how much more leverage they have if you have to go to court just for being a cop....................
Based on all the above comments made by people who obviously know everthing about police work, I call on all my law enforcement friends to obey the letter of the law this week, not even 1 mph above the speed limit when going to routine calls, non emergency calls (which is 98% of the calls). Based on the comments posted, I have absolute confidence that there will be no complaining on response times and people will not mind in the least waiting 45 minutes for us to get there to teach them how to raise their kids or tell them why this is the 10 time their 5th babys daddy has gave them a black eye. Is there abuse by law enforcement of traffic laws when not necessary? sure, but it is not nearly as wide spread as many believe and most just want to get to the next call so they don't have to listen so idiot ask why it took so long. Do you idiots think that cops run lights and sirens on every call they go to and everytime else they must just be goofing off? Do you idiots think they run lights and sirens right up to the scene every time to give the suspect enough warning that they are coming? Get a life people. If you are all so anti law enforcement, don't call them and let the ones who do appreciate them and need them worry about it. Be careful about pointing fingers, when you do it, there are always 3 pointing back at you.
5:03...a cop....lol....how can I tell? Because the rest of us (in his words) are "idiots". We ARE in a police state, where we are told where we can go, when we can be there, who we can or cannot talk to, what we are allowed to say, who we better not say anything to at all, and all the while told "its for our own good". Cops DO abuse their authority and its NOT just an occasional "bad apple", unless, of course, by "bad apple' you mean THOUSANDS. As far as so many people being "anti law enforcement", Well YOU put us there. Beating our sons and daughters up because they didn't leave the party as fast as you told them...giving out tickets, not for 'safety' reasons, but because the State needs revenue....getting caught on film slamming old ladies to the ground, murdering unarmed people (including children)....beating citizens up AFTER they are handcuffed......coming to the neighboorhood looking for fireworks violations, but going home and setting off WWIII in your own back yard...setting up roadblocks and stopping INNOCENT people to see IF they are committing a crime....wearing MASKS while arresting people (you cowards are afraid of everything). Most of us NEVER call you (we don't really need you like YOU think we do). Set an example and get your self respect back. Or continue to be the strong arm, revenue collecting, above the law (and you better not question it), armed henchman, drug dealing, extorting, murdering group that you are. Yeah, I said it.
Anon. 1:31pm. The Post clearly said that they followed him through town and he was not on a call. I seen the same thing happen at the traffic light at riverside drive and on top of that he made a right hand turn from the far left lane.
best thing I can tell you to do is to make a formal complaint to whichever dept your referring to. that would be go there and fill out a form and tell them whats on your mind.
Wow, 5:03, lighten up! Idiots? Clearly you believe that a person with a badge and a gun can do no wrong and that you (a cop, I assume) are not a public servant. Time and again, though, you've been proved wrong. Cops may have the best of intentions (some of them, anyway), but huge numbers of them are scofflaws who obey only the laws they choose to, believing they are above those same laws they are sworn to enforce. I can't remember the last time I saw a Maryland State trooper driving 55 on Route 50 (except when running a rolling roadblock, for s...s & giggles, maybe). All the while, I might add, merrily chatting away on a handheld cell phone. Cops giddily cite citizens for offenses they routinely commit themselves, all the while self-righteously lecturing them on the dangers of driving 6 miles over the speed limit in the middle of nowhere with the only vehicles in sight those of the citizen and the cop. Try to deny it, but it's true. Clearly, the original post said the offending officer was followed through town and didn't appear to be on a call. Most of us don't fall in the category that you seem to believe we do. We don't need your help raising our children or controlling our own lives. As far as calling you for anything, most of us don't and we take care of our own problems. On the very rare occasion when we do call you, we do so reluctantly because we'd rather deal with the situation ourselves. In part, perhaps, because a jerk like you may respond to the call? When you do go on a call, try to remember that MOST citizens are honest, law-abiding and do respect the authority you represent. For the most part, though, you and your ilk are revenue generators for a government that has grown beyond all intentions of the founders of the republic. You have been given powers that many of you routinely abuse. You hide behind billboards, around curves and on the downside of hills on the interstates hoping to write enough tickets to look good in the eyes of your superiors instead of patrolling the neighborhoods where most crimes occur, arresting drug DEALERS, investigating SERIOUS crimes, shutting down gang activity and serving the citizens who do rely on you to protect them. It's not an easy job and I wouldn't relish doing it, but it's what YOU signed on for. BTW, I wouldn't want State troopers to obey the speed limit on Rte 50, because it would slow down the traffic so much that we'd all be getting to our destinations far later than we'd like. ...and also, BTW, what's up with the sentence of your rant referring to "5th baby's daddy?" Got anything you want to say? Or maybe I'm reading something into it that's not there? You signed on to serve EVERYBODY!!!
I, too, am sick of speeding cops not on a call. I have followed them (one was driving his child to school) and sometimes I call and complain to their office. It does no good. It is disturbing that law enforcement feels entitled to break laws. Talk to most any cop, and you will learn that they truly DO feel entitled to speed, etc., yet expect us to support their requests for salary increases, etc. I am grateful there are folks willing to BE cops, but there needs to be something done about their driving! Also, cops are allowed to use cell phones while driving "because they are trained to do so"...REALLY? How can you be trained for that? They need to use hands free devices just like everyone else. It's just ridiculous.
Cops alot of times just want to do their own personal business on taxpayers time. They go shoping at Sears, pay gas bills, pick up meds. I have personaly seen this, a lot!!! Why do you think they don't want you to photograph them or record them, becouse you then have the evidence to prove that they are "Just Crooks with Badges" !!

Unless the gander can write you a ticket.
Do you think just maybe he was going to a call?
dont you know that the police have thier own laws and can do as they please

another example of bad attitude. let me do what I want of I/we will punish you.
You strengthen everything people are saying about you.
