we tried to tell you it was just a ploy for government to issue more tickets. if they really wanted safer roads, they wouldnt pass out licenses like they were a prize in a cracker jack box!

Yesterday as I was leaving work in the pouring down rain - I was beside a woman on Rt. 13 north between Dagsboro Rd and the scales who was texting on her phone. She was holding it up at the top of her steering wheel.
Now I was having a tough enough time with the rain coming down as hard as it was and she was texting???
I got away from her as quick as I could because there's NO way she had any kind of sensible control of her vehicle!
THIS is nuts people! Put down the phones - period!!

The "critics"??? Who are they and what is their motivation to discredit the study? I nominate the police and the insurance companies, both of whom stand to lose big money if anything happens to these cash cow laws. Oh, yeah, politicians, too. We, the people?? We're screwed. More Police...bigger fines....ever more intrusive technology to be used against "we, the people". THATS the answer....

The other night i went and purchased a jawbone bluetooth device- this thing is great. Yes, Verizon Wireless got me for another $100 but it really is worth it and i love it, however, i would not have bought it had it not been for the law changing today. That being said, i dont agree with texting and driving but am guilty of reading an occasional text. However, Have you ever watched someone light up a cigarette driving. Well I dont know how anyone can say that texting or talking on the phone is any different than lighting up and driving. Both take your attention off the road. And while we are at it - ever watch the big dudes driving those big trucks chomp down on a sloppy Big Mac - looks like he is well.... he isnt watching the road he is really enjoying shoveling those calories in his mouth. Folks - this is what happens when we stop using common sense, we now have laws that are really unnecessary. I can tell you that if one of my kids calls and there is an emergency at home - i will stay on the phone with them whether i have a bluetooth or not and that officer that wants to fine me, well he can follow me right in my driveway. So politicians - you took my phone and now i call on each and everyone of you to inact laws that ban smoking and driving as well as eating and driving. Not only will it make people attentive but it will reduce litter ( i hate seeing cig butts along the road) and it might make people think twice about that sloppy Big Mac and we can work on America's weight problem too !!!

I am on the road quite frequently here on Delmarva in a service business and see the effects cell phones on peoples driving skills. Most of the people on the road talking on a cell phone including our law enforcement folks CANNOT manage both. Riding through town this morning I paid special attention to see if I noticed anyone obeying the new hands free law and counted eight on cell phones held to their ear. People are so caught up in communications they forget they are not the only ones on the road and then the accident occurs.

In maryland it is a secondary offense. Unless they get pulled over for something else they can ride right next to a cop on the road and as long as they don't break any laws they won't get a ticket... So as they say it is only illegal if yoou get caught...

A couple of you are idiots. First, the texting law is not a "cash cow". It is a realistic law aimed to reduce traffic deaths. If you don't believe texting and driving is dangerous, you are an idiot. Second, lighting a cigarette and eating a sandwich (not sure where the big truck comes into play, as I have seen yuppies in subarus doing the same thing) are no way in comparison to texting or using a cell phone while driving. Some of you need to go and get a tinfoil bluetooth compatible hat.

If its so dangerous, then why have there are exceptions to the law?? If its dangerous for citizens, then its dangerous for EVERYONE, except, of course, for PUBLIC MASTERS. They have "magic powers", huh? And its not a "cash cow" RIGHT NOW, idiot, BUT wait....in a year or so, in order to "make us safer" and to allow the police ONE MORE opportunity to "interact" with the citizens (search, intimidate, seize and confiscate), this will be made a PRIMARY offense (does anyone think it WON'T happen???lol!)...THEN, the cash will start flowing....here's an idiot that want to make a BET on that...how much money you got to lose to an "idiot"? When you get tired of being a cop, try politics...you have some of the same basic skill sets.
