City Readies For Tropical Storm

Asks Residents to Monitor Local Media for Updates

Mayor James Ireton Jr. announced this Wednesday that the City of Salisbury began preparing for heavy rains targeting the Mid-Atlantic. The expectation is 3 to 5 inches of rain and the possibility of pockets of up to 7 inches in passing storm cells, with rain beginning tonight and all day Thursday. Sand bags have been taken to Canal Woods to allow their maintenance crew to place them. Area dams have been lowered in anticipation of flooding. Electric generators have been serviced and placed city-wide. Sewer inlets are being monitored city wide. With heavy rains the city storm drains fill quickly. If you see debris in the drains and water is pooling on the streets, please call City Public Works at 410-548-3177 or Salisbury Police at 410-548-3165.

Motorists are encouraged, for their 9/30/10 morning commute and throughout the day, to monitor conditions and seek alternate routes from impacted areas.

Representatives of Salisbury Public Works, Salisbury Fire Department, Salisbury Police, and City Emergency Preparedness Manager Loré Chambers are attending a Wicomico County Department of Emergency Services Meeting at 3:30 PM today.
