Actually there are studies which show an extension of the school day to be more effective than extending the year.

I don't know the solution (and there probably isn't a SINGLE solution), but I must make the following observation --- there are entire high schools where the graduation rate is 20%; cities where the graduation rate is less than 50%. Keeping them in school another month or two is supposed to change THAT??? That is also a huge expenditure....Are we going to print more money for that, too, or unleash the police to "serve and protect" us some more?

Sorry a longer school year will make no difference. Get rid of all of the nonsense that is taught in school and go back to the basics.

Wicomico already has the longest school day in the state... hmmm - next idea? Perhaps when people understand that the US educational system is unlike any other in the world, we will stop trying to compare apples and pineapples.

Year round school....like they had at Delmar Elementary.

Extending the school year won't fix the apathy of the current generation of school age children.

Oh please!!! At what point are parents held accountable for their children? Granted, there are a lot of things that need to be fixed, but this is certainly one of them!
