On August 30, 2010 at approximately 1:17 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to an unoccupied residence on the four hundred (400) block of Jefferson Street for the report of a burglary in progress. Upon arrival the officers found below listed suspects # 1, #2, and # 3 exiting the rear of the residence. A search of the residence revealed that suspect # 4 was still located inside of the residence. All suspects were taken into custody. The residence was checked and it was found that the suspects had caused extensive damage to the interior of the residence.
ARRESTED #1: Juvenile, 11 years of age

On August 30, 2010 at approximately 7:30 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to the Pure Gas convenience store on North Salisbury Boulevard for the report of a disorderly subject. Upon arrival the officers met with the clerk who advised that the below listed suspect had taken a bottle of wine without making payment. When confronted by the clerk, the suspect became enraged and fled from the store damaging the front door. The officers were able to locate and arrest the suspect a short distance from the store. While under transport by the officer, the suspect also damaged a window to the Salisbury Police vehicle.
ARRESTED: Kenneth Wayne Watson, 48 years of age

Malicious destruction of property
Disorderly conduct (2 counts)
DISPOSITION: Released to Central Booking

On August 30, 2010 at approximately 12:57 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to the Walmart Department Store on North Salisbury Boulevard for the report of a shoplifter. Upon arrival the officers met with store security who advised that store employees had observed the below listed suspect attempt to take property from the store without making payment. The suspect was stopped and the property was recovered and returned to the store.
ARRESTED: Rykia Linesa Walters, 20 years of age
Norfolk, Virginia
CHARGES: Theft (under $ 100)
DISPOSITION: Released to Central Booking

You know, I wouldn't have been surprised to see that burglary happen in July, but yesterday at 1:17 pm? Shouldn't those little miscreants been in school? Or did school get out early yesterday? Or is the school just happy to have them skip because, if they weren't out wreaking havoc in the neighborhood, they'd be doing the same thing in the school?
Oh, well, at least they were all released to their parents, so we know they all got a stern talking to, perhaps some much-needed corporal punishment and the odds of this ever happening again are slim, right? Right???
Probably released to GRANDparents, because the parents are probably in jail- just like they'll be as soon as they're old enough.
I lived on that street in the past and know from experience most of those kids live in the streets day and night.They hang on the street corner at Kent St. or in the parking lot behind the Hammond st townhomes,drinking with the older hoodlums.When you have an unsupervised 12 yr old with a 27 yr old mother with 5 or 6 other kids and a boyfriend or two,this is what is going to happen.Society has let this happen.Bring back family values,eliminate the welfare-nanny state and things may improve.

Was wondering myself why those kids were not in school the first day? At such a young age too! I can't believe children this age are committing such a terrible crime! That is a rough neighborhood. I agree that they are probably left unsupervised while the parents are strung out or drunk or in jail. Very sad. Imagine what crimes they will be moving on to do when they get older?
The sad irony of it all is that they are an at age where they could still be saved if the right person could intervene.They have no one to look up to and no one to fear.There is nobody at home who is going to kick their butts when they skip school to run the streets.In another few years they may be too hardened to turn back.
