The Salisbury Advisory Council on Youth Activities is saying good-bye to summer with an exciting line-up of activities slated for Saturday, August 14 and Sunday, August 15. The weekend will begin with a ‘Back to School Day’ on Saturday, August 14 from 8am to 6pm where families can enjoy a fun-filled day of games, entertainment, food and bargains at Billy Gene Jackson Sr. Park (420 North Lake Drive Salisbury, MD).
‘Back to School Day’ highlights include tee ball, basketball and softball games as well as face painting, pony rides and water slides. Food, snow balls and cold drinks will also be available. Families are also invited out to watch the Larry Miles Tennis Tournament and witness a ceremony recognizing participants from this summer’s tee ball, tennis, golf and softball programs at Billy Gene Jackson Sr. Park as well as the Stay Ready Ryderz a group that provides free back to school supplies.
The ‘Back to School Day’ will also feature a ‘Fantastic Flea Market,’ where you can sell your treasures. Tables are available for only $10. A wide variety of merchandise will be available including clothing, shoes, jewelry, rugs, electronics, furniture and more. On Sunday, events will take a more serious tone for a banquet honoring community activists Marion and Norma Lee Barkley. The banquet is held in memory of Larry Miles, Sr., Billy Gene Jackson Sr. Park’s first tennis instructor. The evening’s speaker is Delegate Rudolph Cane, who will be introduced by Freddie Mitchell. As a special guest, Billy Gene Jackson Sr. himself will be in attendance. The banquet will take place at the St. Paul AME Zion Church on 410 Delaware Avenue. Tickets are available for $25.
