LEGENDS DROP SHOREBIRDS 10-3 IN SERIES FINALE

‘Birds Play Game One Against BlueClaws on Thursday

Salisbury, Md.
– The Lexington Legends plated five runs in the ninth inning to cap off a 10-3 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Tuesday night. The Legends secured the series win with the victory.

The Legends and Shorebirds traded runs in the second inning. In the top half, Aaron Bray singled home Jacob Goebbert. In the bottom half, Mike Flacco scored on a Gary Helmick infield single. Flacco moved to third on a throwing error by Jimmy Paredes.

The Legends plated nine unanswered runs after the second inning.

In the third, Jiovanni Mier hit a triple to right-center field to score Grant Hogue and Goebbert doubled to plate Mier to give the Legends a 3-1 lead. In the fifth inning, the Legends tacked on two more runs including another RBI hit by Mier.

The Legends put the game out of reach with five hits and five runs against Shorebirds reliever David Walters in the ninth inning. Bubby Williams capped the frame with a two-run double to the left field corner.

T.J. Baxter gave the Shorebirds something to smile about in the ninth inning. He belted his team high seventh homer of the season over the left field wall to trim the deficit to 10-3. The ‘Birds would get no closer.

Lexington starter Tanner Bushue earned the win in six innings. He allowed six hits and one unearned run. Shorebirds starter Bobby Bundy was pinned with the loss. He allowed nine hits and five runs.

Reliever Brian Parker tossed three scoreless frames. He allowed just three hits.

The Shorebirds gear up for a five-game series against Lakewood starting on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Brent Allar makes the start in game one.
