Car Stop Leads To Drug And Weapons Charges


Location: Southbound I-95 south of DE Rt. 141, Newport, DE

Date of Occurrence: Tuesday, August 11, 2010 at 11:50 p.m.

Defendants: Jethroe Tickles, 30, Wilmington, DE
Shareef A. Hargrove, 27, Newark, DE

Vehicle: 1988 Oldsmobile Delta

Charges: Possession with the Intent to Deliver Crack Cocaine (both defendants)
Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited (defendant Tickles)
Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (both defendants)
Possession with the Intent to Deliver Marijuana (both defendants)
Maintaining a Vehicle for Transporting Drugs (both defendants)
Conspiracy 2nd Degree (both defendants)
Possession of a Schedule II Narcotic (Endocet) (defendant Tickles)
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (both defendants)

Arraignment and Bail: Both defendants were arraigned at JP Court 11. Defendant Tickles was committed to the Henry Young Prison for lack of $27,500.00 secured bail. Defendant Hargrove was committed to the Henry Young Prison for lack of $17,000.00 secured bail.

Resume: The Delaware State Police have arrested two men on drug and gun charges after a late evening car stop on I-95.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:50 p.m. last night as a trooper on routine patrol observed a white Oldsmobile traveling on I-95 southbound in the area of DE. Rt. 141 in Newport. The trooper observed that the front seat passenger was no wearing a seatbelt. After conducting a stop of the vehicle, the trooper came into contact with the operator, later identified as Jethroe Tickles of Wilmington, DE, and the passenger, later identified as Shareef Hargrove, of Newark, DE. While questioning the occupants of the vehicle, the trooper observed that both men were acting in a suspicious and nervous manner. The trooper asked for and obtained consent to search the vehicle. As defendant Tickles exited the vehicle, several pills fell to the ground from his pants leg. A further search of Tickles revealed $341.00 in suspected drug sale proceeds which was seized. Upon searching the vehicle, the trooper located a loaded .45 caliber handgun, 30.5 grams of marijuana, 9.5 grams of crack cocaine and a digital scale used to weigh drugs. The defendants were then taken into custody and charged with the above listed crimes.
