Why Do I Love Delmar Delaware So Much

Isn't it ironic just a couple of hours ago I put up a survey question post about the worst roads in Wicomico County, only to hear all sorts of large equipment outside my home in Delmar.

I went outside and spoke with some of the workers and I praised them for what they're doing. One of the guys said, we're nowhere near done. I said, what do you mean by that. He replied, once we're done doing this section, (Rt. 54 to the Maryland line, less than 1/2 a mile) they'll come back and put a SECOND layer over top of the first!!!!!!

7.5 acres of land, a beautiful home, a huge barn, $1,200.00 a YEAR in property taxes!!!!! Folks, Delmar, Delaware is by far the BEST Town you could ever possibly live and the state of Delaware has more advantages than you'll ever know.

In recent weeks we have traveled to different State Campgrounds that were just out of this world. As a state resident it cost $24.00 a night with Full Hookup, 50 amp electric and water.

Some may hate me for making such statements but the fact remains, the TRUTH hurts. My home is less than 1/2 a mile from Salisbury. Our roads are paved and Delaware is working diligently to pave as many reads as they can, according to the workers I just spoke with moments ago.

Who's The All America City now? We don't need no stinking certificate!

I live in Delmar, but on the MD side... We get shafted all the time becasue were still in the wicomico county side and the funny thing is... When the county paved the road a few years ago, they stopped short of my road because they said it was out of there area, yet it is wicomico county, maryland lol... so the first part of the road is paved, and the rest which goes to my house is tar an chip... I love it lmao

How do you figure you're 1/2 mile from Salisbury? Not even as the crow flies.

Look at the map. I am less than 1/2 mile from Salisbury.

That's a beautiful piece of property Joe.

While I'm glad to see them doing 54, I wish they'd finish what they started out on Rt. 13 to Laurel and beyond. They paved it last year, came back and put grooves in it and then left it be.
That stretch of highway is dangerous the way it is, especially when it rains!

They're paving Spring Hill Road, not Rt. 54.

This is Federal Stimulus money. Maryland is about to get started with theirs. Its all according to who gets money released first.

You do not live in the Town of Delmar its the county. If you did live in town DE. or MD. Your tax would be more than triple. Stop this nonsense.

I have already dealt with it in front of my job on Seaford Road here in Seaford. A bit of a pain but in the end I guess it's worth it

anonymous 1:26, get a grip, or a life. The town that I live in is Delmar, Delaware. It's not names country Delmar or Delmar Country, Idiot. Now, if you're dumb enough to live in Downtown Delmar, well, what can I tell you. I don't pay taxes there, so I cannot confirm if it would be tripple the taxes or not, nor do I care because I'll never move there or live there.

I did just look at a map. Not to be picky but there is no way you live 1/2 mile from Salisbury. As the crow flies you live closer to Hebron then you do Delmar.

J.Albero said...

Oh Really! Tell me what town the west END of Waller Road is in. Come on now, get a grip!

Anonymous said...

Did they do any prep-work before resurfacing?

J.Albero said...

anonymous 2:31, yes. If you look at the 2nd picture, (or click on it to enlarge it) you'll see all the tar they put down a couple of months ago on all the cracks.

Anonymous said...

12:51, just curious, where do you live that they stopped short.

Anonymous said...

$24.00 bucks a night , that's a deal.

J.Albero said...

anonymous 2:33, Trapp Pond, Killians Pond, any of the State Parks.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, I see it. You should have a good road for many years to come.

Anonymous said...

well if you go east on Waller Road you end up in Delmar. Going west you end up going north on Country Road or south on Spring Hill Ln lol what do I win

J.Albero said...

You win nothing because you never said what TOWN the west end of Waller Road is. Waller Road ends at Spring Hill Rd, Salisbury, MD.

I hope you thank the federal government for the stimulus money that is paying for this improvement, and for all the jobs created by this federal program and others like it across the country.

Joe,
You know very well the feds are handing out Obama Monopoly Money hand over fist. Delaware probably gets a double portion. I remember when Spiro Agnew was V.P. the Salisbury airport got all kinds of expensive upgrades that cost millions, paid for by the Federal Aviation Administration, because the Vice President flew down in Air Force 2, or whatever thay called it, to go to his condo in Ocean City. Now Biden is Vice Quack, so his state is raking in the dough. Also, just because you have a Delmar mailing address, it doesn't mean you live in Delmar and evidently, you don't.

Joe, you sure seem to be able to open doors for controversy lol jackkcharl@aol.com

3:35 - I hope YOU thank all the other taxpayers who paid for this!
This federal program did NOTHING to CREATE jobs! The jobs were already there!
I have no problem with road improvements being done, I feel if they kept up the roads it would be cheaper than the way they do it but don't try and say this Federal stimulus money is doing more than it really is.
One more thing, if they would lay thicker layers when they do it, like they do up north, the roads would last longer anyway. Instead, they only put down a few inches and then 1-3 years down the road, the road is falling apart and has to be redone all over again, when they get to it 5 years later!

Maryland forever said...

you can take delaware and sussex county and stick it ..... maryland is a far better state to live in even if it does cost alot more ... Delaware sucks in more ways than i can shake a stick at ... in fact Delaware sucks more than New Jersey!!!

4:12, nobody has money to put a thickness of HMA down like you are describing except the state. Sure it would be nice, but take Wicomico County for instance. You have over 700 miles of road to maintain. There is maintenance costs besides just putting down HMA. You would only be able to resurface a very small amount of roadway, and it wouldn't make sense. How do you seal the rest of the roads (yes seal, all blacktop or any other type of surface treatment is really just a seal over a base). Would you suggest more tar and chip? If you have a decent road to start with and put down a couple of inches, you can get atleast 10 years. Right now you don't have to worry about paving anything except from the Obama fund and that is a joke. Our kids and grandkids will be paying for this crap and it won't even be around for them to see. All the governments are putting their money into HMA because that is the easiest way to use it, rather than put it into infrastructure improvements that will be around for 50 years like new bridges and things. Maybe you should become county executive to figure out how to $hit dollars so that roads can be paved the way you are dreaming of.

I'm glad your end of Delaware is getting roads paved: down here in Selbyville it's pot hole, pot hole; and more holes :(

I think people are getting confused about the towns we live in...

There are CORPORATE LIMITS, i.e., the City of Salisbury or the Town of Delmar. Those are special taxing and service areas. Then there are POSTAL DISTRICTS, i.e., you live outside of Salisbury or Delmar's town limits - you still have a Salisbury or Delmar address, but do not have the special taxes or services.

When Joe says he lives 1/2 mile from Salisbury, he is correct - because of the postal district.

"If you did live in town DE. or MD. Your tax would be more than triple. "

This is not true at all. Delmar, MD, just LOWERED their taxes by 2%. However, what would be true is your taxes would go up because you would have to pay both town and county taxes. However, Sussex County taxes are much cheaper than Wicomico County, so if you stayed on the DE side you'd be better off tax-wise. Roughly speaking though, if your taxes are $1200 now, they would be about $2000 in town, in DE. Not triple.

I live in Delmar, MD. I pay Wicomico County and town taxes. Wicomico is about $1000, town is about $1000.

Joe, slurry paving is nothing to get too excited about. Wait until you ride on it. The road will not be any smoother, just look better for a while. It is a replacment for tar and chip, but it it nothing like hot-mix paving.
