Fisher Divorce Included Drug, Abuse Charges

Maryland congressional candidate Rob Fisher's campaign is denying a decades-old allegation that he used hard drugs and physically attacked his ex-wife.

In a 1991 divorce case, Fisher's former spouse charged that the Republican House hopeful "threw me up against the wall and grabbed me by the neck" and later "ripped the bathroom door off" after she tried to hide, according to court documents obtained by POLITICO.

She also testified that Fisher had been drinking at the time of the incident and "had a problem with drinking and drugs. ... As far as I know he did cocaine twice in front of me and I knew he did crack. I know he smokes marijuana," she told the court, adding that his substance abuse "provoked a lot of fights."

Fisher spokesman Demetrios Karoutsos told POLITICO that the allegations were false, denying that the incident Fisher's former wife described ever took place and stating that the divorce was settled amicably. Fisher's ex-wife could not be reached for comment; the Virginia attorney who represented her, Harvey Perritt Jr., could not be reached either, his son said Wednesday.

Fisher is challenging state Sen. Andy Harris in the Republican primary for vulnerable Democratic Rep. Frank Kratovil's district. Karoutsos blamed the Harris campaign for pushing the story about Fisher's divorce, calling it "disgusting and despicable that our opponents are hurling baseless and untrue allegations in order to distract voters from the real issues."

this will end it for him.... don't people realize actions have consequences? yes; we can ALL be forgiven; repent and change but that past will always be there for someone to dig up. God says he puts our past in the "sea of forgetfulness" never to see it again; if we accept salvation through His Son Jesus; but man will always bring up the past.

Divorce allegations can always get nasty...and they were probably young. Could it be true? Maybe. Could it also be the case of an angry (I'm guessing) 20-something year old woman in the midst of a divorce who's just trying to get back at her soon to be ex? Yeah...could be that too. Until I see something further I can't pass judgement.

Where there is smoke there is fire. The politicians in office have a moral responsibility to the public to stop domestic violence. When there is a politician that, in fact, commits such an offense in their personal life, it gives the picture of their morals and beliefs of the issue. Especially when they are put in a situation where they are given potential situations happening and they choose to turn a blind eye to it. With male politicians its one thing for it to happen because they are not designed with a maternal instinct, but for female to turn a blind eye to it is not an innate natural response. It makes you then want to dig in and find out why their beliefs could be so against their god given instinct. It is usually money, drugs or the fact that they have sociopathic traits.

This is 1:12 again...
I am a woman. I do not take this lightly. I am not turning a blind eye. To me abuse of any kind is disgusting and horrible. I can't begin to explain how big of a deal abuse is to me.
I'm just saying that at this point there isn't enough evidence. There was never any attempt to prove the allegations...so maybe what you're seeing is a lot of hot air - not smoke. I'm still reserving judgement.

Allegations are one thing but when there is a protection order granted then there was some kind of proof. Especially when he excepts the order.

anonymous 3:51, as I was told a long time ago, you can get a protection order against a piece of toast. No Judge wants to be on the line SHOULD someone ultimately do something. They give them out like candy.

Very true, Joe. They are handed out like candy. BUT, does this article say anything about a protection order? I don't see anything...and I've read it three times through. All this article details are accusations from divorce proceedings.

Unless you live in Wicomico County.

I wonder how many politicians have changed their names, broken up marriages, and slept their way to the top.

This guy doesn't even live in the
1st District, He lives over in VA. Check the Maryland voting records. Also, he says he lives in Federalsburg but yet his filing says he is from Worchester and his headquarters in Salisbury is the address given. Something is not adding up about this guy. Please check my facts, you will find them all to be correct.
