BASES LOADED WALK LIFTS ‘BIRDS OVER CRAWDADS, 2-1

Kenny Moreland Tosses Seven-Inning Gem

Salisbury, Md.
– Kieron Pope drew a bases loaded walk from Tyler Tufts in the eighth inning to lift the Shorebirds to a 2-1 win at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

The Shorebirds built a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. Ty Kelly drew a lead off walk. Tyler Townsend followed with a single. Two batters later, Steve Bumbry singled through the right side of the infield to plate Kelly.

The Crawdads leveled the score in the seventh inning. Mike Ortiz hit a lead off single. Zach Zaneski then reached on an error by Garabez Rosa, which advanced Ortiz to third. Ortiz scored on a double play ball off the bat of Cody Podraza.

The Shorebirds regained the lead in the eighth inning. Luis Bernardo hit a lead off knock to left. Two batters later, Brian Conley walked. Then, Tyler Townsend was hit by a pitch. Kieron Pope was then walked to force home Luis Bernardo.

Kenny Moreland was outstanding in seven innings. He allowed four hits and one unearned run. Moreland lowered his ERA to 3.00.

Tom Phelps earned the win by tossing a scoreless eighth and Josh Dowdy picked up his 14th save of the season in the ninth inning.

The Shorebirds return to action on Thursday night on the road against the Lakewood BlueClaws.
