LOCAL BEACHES SEE SURGE IN BUSINESS

Beaches along the East Coast are welcoming a surge of new business as vacationers abandon trips to the Gulf of Mexico's oil-soaked shores. Tourism officials and business ownersalong the Eastern Seaboard, from Ocean City to the Outer Banks, are seeing beachgoers — leery of Gulf Coast crude — testing the waters farther north. "I can't keep up with the e-mails I'm getting for inquiries," said Sheila Davolos, rental manager at Jack Lingo Realtor in Delaware's Rehoboth Beach. (Washington Examiner)

Shocker it's summer !

You people missed the point. We're getting more business on the east coast because people are avoiding the gulf coast, not just because it's that time of year.

Maybe we should send a thank you note to BP and Obama.

Joe:

Not to worry -- O'Malley will stop that from happening (and walk on water to do it).

I don't blame people for changing their vacations. Who the hell wants to sit by water that smells like gas and get stained by oil by putting their feet in?? I wouldn't go in the water or even dream of allowing the kids to go in either.

The economy has recovered , obamie has saved the country , people are out there spending money hand over fist.NOT!!!!!!!! Maybe people can't afford to travel very far now!!

1:10, I think like you do - it's more like many people just plain can't afford to travel very far. I avoid OC altogether, nothing but rip off city as far as I'm concerned, but those who like the beach are staying closer to home because of $$.

And you know what we will hear in September from Ocean City and other beach areas in the community? "Compared to last year, we have lost a tremendous amount business". It happens every year and is total BS. Yet somehow they keep raising the prices, whether it be food, lodging or any other service down there. You wait and see what they say.

Even more reason for us to stay AWAY from Ocean City this summer!

Wait until we have oil washing up on our beaches. We will not be so smug then. This could end beach vacations on the east coast forever. OC could turn into a ghost town.

It is terrible.

don't throw me in that briar patch!
