THE PROBLEM CENSUS TAKERS ARE HAVING

JOE,

I JUST SPOKE MOMENTS AGO WITH A WONDERFUL SWEET OLDER MAN CONDUCTING THE CENSUS IN THE PRESIDENTS NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOC., AND HE SHARED WITH ME ON SOME OF THE RENTAL PROPERTIES OWNERS IN THIS AREA WILL NOT EVEN GIVE THEM THEIR NAMES, SO THAT THE CENSUS TAKERS CAN JUST DO THEIR JOBS. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE LANDLORDS THAT ALL THEY DO IS COLLECT MONEY, AND TRY SO HARD TO HIDE WHO THEY ARE, THEY HIDE BEHIND ASSOCIATIONS AND PROPERTIES THIS AND THAT. IF THEY HAVE TO USE THESE METHODS THEN THEY SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO OWN PROPERTY IN SALISBURY AND WICOMICO COUNTY. MAYBE WE NEED TO HAVE RECORDS CHANGED THAT THERE NAMES AND CORRECT ADDRESSES ARE ACTUALLY LISTED OR BE FINED . SORRY I'M ON THAT PREVERBIAL SOAP BOX AGAIN.

if a census taker came to my home the only info they would get is number of people in the home

names, race, income, ect is all unneeded info

Why dont the government mind there own business.
It is none of there business , i would think that anyone who has a job that the government has all the information that they need.

Who wouldn't release names? A census taker (or anyone, for that matter) can determine who owns a property by doing a MD Real Property Search. Are you saying that the property owner won't release the names of tenants? I don't necessarily see that as a problem, either. It is a resident's responsibility to either complete the census form or answer the door. Where/how do you think people's addresses should be listed??

PLEASE DONT USE CAPS, IT'S LIKE YOURE SHOUTING! seriously Joe you gotta fix these all-caps posts, it's annoying.

Give out tenants names and then get sued for violation of privacy. I don't see where the owner should have to give out this kind of information. The tenants can provide their own information if they can speak english, if they can't send them back to where they came from.

I dont know about landlords, but i own my home and sent in that stupid form only to have a census taker show up at my door and insist i fill out a new form. i told her "no" in no uncertain terms. she kept pressing and pressing, then when i still said i have already done this and im not doing it again, let alone having you fill out the form for me.( she was trying to read me the questions and write the answers for me.) she said if i was uncomfortable with her she could send someone else to help me. i told her i dont need help, and ive already sent this in , im not doing it again. she responded by starting at the top of the form with the first question all over again. i had to tell her, im going inside now, have a good day. so if you do or dont fill it out, i guess they can still harrass you any time they want.

I want to clarify a few things for all of you people who think that the Census is a waste of time. First of all, it is the law that everyone complete a Census every ten years. The Census is conducted every ten years so town governments, states, etc. can have funds allocated for schools, roads, nursing homes, hospitals, etc. from the Federal Government. For example, if the State of MD claims that only 100,000 people reside in that state they will receive funds allocated for that many people because they are basing it off the Census, but really there is 200,000 people because people did not want to take 10 minutes to complete the damn form. It also helps with electoral votes and congressional seats. It is absolutely absurd that people can sit their ass in front of a TV or do useless shit for 10 minutes but when it comes down to actually helping their local community, they can't spare 10 minutes. Get a grip and there are more things in life to worry and bitch about rather than the Census. The questions are not that personal. It is your name, age, birthdate and race. These are all things that you probably share on a daily basis anyways with strangers. What is this world coming to. The Census has been conducted since

thank you 2:10. What is wrong with the rest of the people on this comments page? Why would you harass someone who is just trying to do a job. What a bunch of a=holes!

Anonymous said...

Agreed 2:10. It takes all of a few minutes to fill out.

However I do disagree with this post. I rent. I filled out the census. BUT I would be pissed if my landlord took the liberty of making the decision to do so on my behalf.

Why do people get nasty about it? Politely tell them you don't care to fill it out and go back in your house. No need to be nasty. Just be firm. They aren't going to kick down your door if you walk away. It's their job!

2:10 - Name is not of any legitimate value and age, birth date, and race are discriminatory. The law says citizens are required to be counted to determine the population. Every other question is intrusive and not required by law to be answered. Census Bureau have a problem with that then let them sue. I'll provide more than a head count only when so ordered by a majority of the Supreme Court.

2:47. You do whatever best suits you. The next comment I will be reading from you is that the Federal Marshalls came to your door because you refused to fill out a simple Census form. You will be the one complaining that your child's school doens't have funding to buy new books or provide new programs. You might complain that the roads around here are horrible and they need to be fixed. Or you might think damn if my State had more electoral votes so we didn't have to vote in another stupid ass President like the one we have now. Think about it! The Census is for the good. What more harm could it do than what has already been done by Obama.

as i origionally stated, i already wasted my time filling out the form. a visit to my home was not warranted. i wasnt sitting on my ass, i had just been home from my full time job 20 min and was in the middle of cooking dinner. i pay for private school because the schools are not suitable for wild animals let alone children. on and on , either way one time is enough for filling out the form.

2:10 i filled out the form, only partially. the goveerment si tasked with counting the people.
how does name, race? income help with this?
they have no part in anything.
its disciminatory and thus did not get answered.
if the goverment wants to know how much i make, ask the irs.
as a matter of fact all this data is available there, use it to determing congressiona seats, ect.
oh wait then illegals and deadbeats wouldnt count, and that would be bad for the democrats.
remember when the constitution was written there was no income tax, no drivers licensing, no social secutity card, ect. Basically no way to know how many people there were. its really outdated and could save alot of money by doing away with it and using the methods at hand to count the population

A landlord should not release information regarding tenants. While I agree that everyone should fill out the Census form, if the resident chooses not to then that is between them and the gov't, not the a property OWNER who RENTS his/her property to another. A third party (landlord) releasing ANY information without the consent of the resident is just asking for trouble. Not to mention, I don't see how having my NAME along with all the other information counts for anything. The Census person I spoke to (yes, AFTER sending IN my form also) tried to say the providing names helps to be counted, therefore gets more federal monies for this area. My response was that my NAME isn't going to get any more federal funds than yours! I agree that the Census is necessary but believe that they ask for too much information arming any smart, dishonest computer savy person with just enough to find out more about you. Just my thoughts. Love your blog Joe

Well the short answer is this: I dont' trust the government.

Period. End of story. Thank you

now get off my porch.

WHAT? Landlords again being blamed for the lazy a## people who rent from them? Come on...you have got to be kidding? I'm sure the Census people are very nice (I've met a few) but if a landlord was able to give up the "Personal" information" of their tenants that the Census is asking for, then what would keep a census person from sitting in a rental office having them list all the information for all their properties and basically, doing their job? The landlords have been blamed for the trash their tenants leave out, the lawns they don't cut, and now the fact that they won't fill out the census...I bet the landlords filled theirs out and sent them off...oh guess what...I know mine did!!! Wake up people...not everything can be blamed on the landlords!

I filled my form out, sent it in. 2 was on the form. 2 live here. I have been visited twice since then. The first stated that I was required to answer all questions per title 13 or 14. I found no such code or title.
The second person got my same answer, and I told her My law is the constitution, and 2 live here. She understood, and left.

While working on an unoccupied home, I was visited again, and told the worker zero. She wanted my name. When I gave it to her, she wrote it on a census form for that address!

This will be the biggest miscount of people ever!!!!

I had it with the census and the census takers! I also filled out the form and mailed it in the next day only to have the census taker show up at my door. They are still calling and roaming around trying to get information on different neighbors. I literally have to peek out the door before leaving my house so I'm not ambushed by one of these nuisances!
I'm not surprised though. It's just one more thing the US Government has fouled up.

Sounds like a lot of people have something to hide....

they have visited my home twice after I filled out the Census form with the #3. that is all that is required to count the indiviuals in the areas effected to receive Tax dollars. you all have to know your Constitution. if you want to critize me that shows your ignorance. HIPPA no longer exist thanks to the Healthcare bill or are you all ignorant to that fact also.

Anonymous said...

I hope that you are correct 10:03. HIPPA is rediculous and I hope it is obsolete. As far as the census goes, I was turned off by it when the White House took it over for the first time in history. Another Obama takeover that I don't approve of. The White house will now use it to create more districts in their favor. Corruption at it's worse.

I have heard that if the census takers can't get any answers from the the places they go,they are sent to the Sheriffs Dept for them to follow up on. The Census takers are paid whether they get the info or not.
