Teen Car Crashes Tied To Early Classes

Study compares accident rates in two Virginia counties

When high schools start too early, sleep-deprived teenagers are more likely to crash their cars, suggests new research.

The study, which compared accident rates among teenagers in two adjacent counties in Virginia — one with schools that started extra early and one that started at a reasonable hour — confirms that teenagers are not designed to be morning people.

The finding also adds to a growing body of evidence that later start times can help adolescents earn better grades, get along better with their peers, gain control over their emotions, steer clear of drugs, avoid depression and even lower their risk of suicide.

well couple of things
1. if the kids are not getting to bed early enough, they should give up something, maybe an activity.

2. how do the traffic accidents for other groups compare int hese counties? is one more congested thent he other? more prone to accidents?

there is not enough information to draw a conclusion. the sample group is too small.

but someone got paid to do this stupid study. I am sure I can come up with a "study" to contradict this study. Happens all the time.

Yet another liberal study that assists people in not having to take responsibility for themselves or children.

They have had studies suggesting this for years. Do your research. Its true that teenangers bodies are more equipped to stay up late and wake late. Even if they go to bed early enough they just are not morning people. You know who are morning people that causes the school to still open at that time? The teachers, school employees and the parents that need to make sure their children are on their way to school before they have to leave for work.

This study is like comparing Ocean City to Salisbury and saying that there are more crashes in OC because the Income tax rate is to low there.
