A "Moment In History:" Local Dems React To Health Care Passage

Most local Democrats disagree with the opposition about the effects of health care reform. In fact, they say the bill will close gaps that citizens pay for every day.

"It's exciting. I think people realize the moment in history and the opportunity," said Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Md.).

According to its own figures, the District pays $50 million a year for a program supplementing health care for people who don’t qualify for Medicaid, but can’t afford health care insurance. That cost will go away under this bill. Instead, the District's 134,000 uninsured families will receive tax credits to help them pay for insurance.

Anyone who thinks this bill will lower health costs is truly detached from reality.....but then most in Congress are.

So this means they have to buy health insurance (full cost with money they don't have) and then apply for tax credits afterwards. Call me crazy but I don't think this will work and I believe this is going to be wildly abused.

I believe 2:39 pm has hit the nail on the head!!! We all know of the abuse in government welfare programs from food stamps, medicaid, and even the WIC programs, just one more way for those that choose not to work to get a 'free ride' on the hard working people of this country!!

I think cost controls need to be added before it takes full effect. A government entity modelled after the Public Service Commission that utilities have to seek approval from for rate increases might work.
Also, a Smartcard with embedded computer chip containing patient records and payouts to facilitate billing could be added.
Good job, Mr. President!
P.S.
I forgive you, Mr. Albero. Traffic is everything.

Typical for Donna Edwards. She is a retired State Employee, Social Worker, who was very active in Union activity and pushed the AFSCME / AFLCIO Democratic agenda at all cost.
