The Wicomico Neighborhood Congress (WNC) is pleased to inform you of our 2nd annual conference. The event will be held on Tuesday, October 27th, 2009 at Salisbury University -Guerrieri Center in the Nanticoke Room at 6:30 PM. – with registration at 6:15. This letter is being sent in an effort to update you on the WNC and to ask for your participation.

The initial community concerns brought forth during the first conference include:

Public safety - Crime, drugs, gangs…
Environment – Over development of agricultural land, storm water runoff, the quality of water in our lakes, streams and aquifers…
Housing – Code compliance, rentals, slum & blight…
Quality of life – Internet service, local T.V. channels…

We are pleased to announce that First Sergeant Tim Robinson with the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Department will be addressing one of the community’s topics of highest concern - crime. First Sergeant Robinson will also instruct us on “How to Establish a Neighborhood Crime Watch in Your Neighborhood.”

A second item of highest concern is our environment and our next guest speaker, Margaret Enloe with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation - Heart of the Chesapeake, will be speaking on this topic. Margaret will also be instructing us on: “Rain gardens: A household way to improve drinking water in your community”.

Finally we will have our very own Wicomico Neighborhood Congress board member Michael Pretl, experienced non-profit attorney, hosting our third breakout session. Mike will be speaking about and answering questions pertaining to home owners associations while addressing the topic of: “Establishing a Home Owners Association in your Neighborhood.”

Please join us or have a representative join us to express the concerns of you and/or your neighborhood. It is our vision that the WNC will bring together the residents of Wicomico County to address all issues of importance concerning our neighborhoods. In doing so, we hope to motivate and empower our members to help improve the quality of life for all of our citizens.

Best regards,

Mayor James Ireton, Jr.
