Good Morning Joe,
I just wanted to tell you a positive experience that I had with the SPD
yesterday morning. I took all my children to the Boundless Playground in
Salisbury yesterday. I know that some of my fellow Mom friends have issues
with Boundless because of the homeless, drunks and drug dealings that go on
at there and are very leery about taking their kids there to play. Although,
I have never had a run in with either of these types of people, but I have
occasionally see them walk through. I noticed a SPD car ride by and he
stopped got out and walked over to the pavilion to check out what he thought
was one of the above lying down on the bench. What he didn't know was it was
my 17yr old daughter doing what she does best, because heaven forbid she
partake in activities that involve swings or slides..lol. He came around to
speak with us and wanted to make sure there wasn't anything going on,
especially while the children were playing. We all had a good chuckle out of
the situation, but what really matters is he took the time to not just ride
by, but get out and walk over. It really meant a lot that he was checking. I
know myself and my friend feel a lot safer going over to that playground. I
really wish I had gotten his name, so I wanted to give a special thanks to
him. I will also be able to let my other friends know it's ok to play there.

it's kinda sad how this woman is so eager to pat an officer on the back for merely doing his job. Next time I go to the store and a cashier rings me out I am going to write a letter to you Joe and tell you what a wonderful person they are and how he/she doing their job (of course,for which they get paid)made such a positive impact on my life today. This is pathetic.
It is exactly that reason I speak to the Police on duty. I say hello and thank them for the improvements I have seen. It is the men and women of the force that are making the difference and trust me we are far from great or sometimes good but there has been a difference for the better in part of my world.
You see, they're not all bad. Those guys and gals get alot of criticism but what they really need is better leadership. They should merge with the County Sheriff Dept.
What does your daughter look like?

What's kind of sad is the fact that you obviously don't understand what it takes to just do their job. I'd imagine it's a little more difficult than being a cashier; when's the last time you saw an employee at a grocery store that needs to carry a gun? This is pathetic? What would you do if those officers weren't around? I'm sure you wouldn't turn out so hot if you, yourself walked up to a homeless person in a park and said, "hey, what are you doing?".
OMG Kathleen--I think that Trish was merely trying to counter all the negative press the cops have been given lately. And yeah, any good manager would give their employee a pat on the back for doing a good job, even if it simply means doing their job RIGHT.
I guess it goes to show that its impossible to do anything right. You say something bad, you get criticized. You say something good, you get criticized.
Thanks for writing this Trish, and thanks for posting it Joe. If EVERYONE got pats on their backs for doing their jobs right and pleasantly, perhaps Salisbury would enjoy better service all over. Is that such a bad thing?

Do you think its ok for people to come on here and talk about cops personal lives, or a minor mistake that might have been made on the job? Because we don't hear of grocery store clerk's personal lives or if they gave someone the wrong change! And I am sure you are one of the people who gets on here and has no problem cutting them down! Next time you go anywhere you shouldn't be ashamed of going to management or Joe and telling them what a good job there employees are! Make an effort to make this a better world and express your compliments more than your complaints!
If only everyone could do that at least once a day...what a better world it might be!
Angela hit it right on the nose about what I was trying to do. We have had posts about homeless, prostitutes and our local police force. What happened to us yesterday tied into what has been happening in our town.
So I guess the next time and officer gets shot in the line of duty, or a firefighter risks his life to save a life from a burning building, or the grocery store boy who will help you take your groceries to the car in the pouring rain, shouldn't get any praise at all, because they were merly doing their job and getting paid.
Now tell me how sad or pathetic is that?
People should always compliment other people, no matter what job they are doing. It just takes 3 secs to say thanks, you never know what impact you could have on someone.
So for those who "got" what I was doing when I sent this letter to Joe, I appreciate that.
Kathleen--Yes, the officer was "merely doing his job." But I echo some of the people who have expressed their opinions to you and I add this: Any officer who has to put up with the leadership of the SPD, and the mayor and 3 out of 5 of the council members, deserves a pat on the back for "merely doing his job." Since they didn't get the raise they were promised, it's a wonder more haven't quit and gone over to the WCSO or MSP. And when I get a cashier at the store who is pleasant and does her job right, she gets a smile and a thank you as well. The one who is "pathetic" here is you. I suggest you get some counseling to help you figure out why you are so mean-spirited and bitter.
Its a positive post!It helps counteract the nastiness in life to read about someone doing nice stuff,even if it is just their job.
