SNOW HILL, Md. -- Both sides in a case between Salisbury police chief Allan Webster and blogger Joe Albero reached a settlement Wednesday, avoiding a courtroom showdown.
Officials at the Worcester County District Court said Wednesday the suit has been passed for settlement.
Albero said on his blog this morning that there was an agreement that doesn't involve money, and confirmed the resolution in an interview. He would not provide details of the settlement.
Attorneys for Webster were not available for comment.
Webster filed the nearly $10,000 lawsuit last March, claiming Albero defamed his character with false statements about him on Albero's blog. Webster also claims his privacy was invaded.
Albero is frequently critical of Lower Shore public officials on his Web site, Salisbury News.

joe wonder how many people know what exxon showed in their qurterly profits today?
Good that you reached an equitable settlement with the Chief. I don't think the slim's article does you any justice and seems to indicate that the suit is still open to posible future litigation. Just what gives them the idea that future problems are possible from this suit?

I would like to know who paid Webster's legal fees.
If the City footed the bill, then. there could easily be a cross-claim action filed by any citizen based on the grounds of misappropriation of taxpayer funds.
I left a comment along this line on Michael's blog. Joe, I don't know if you quite get the idea that some of us would like to know what the courts are going to do with a case like yours. It could have an effect way outside the Salisbury universe. Well honestly it will have an effect whatever the outcome. Let me say this as well: I wouldn't wish being in court on anyone. I will go on record: I'm rooting for you Joe!
Jpe, I am glad you all settled, it was stupid in the first place. If we had a newspaper, if we had honest people in public office we wuld be in a paradise,(which of course is some utopian fantasy) you keep 'em honest Joe, and we need that in this community, the Mare is next, and I hope she goes to court. Someone has to expose the dirty doings of that woman, and I hope it is you.
